The results are in…and next week we’ll announce the winner of the Great Colleague of the Year. The winner joins a select group of previous winners. Regardless of the actual winner, all the nominees richly deserve to be in the mix - all have gone above and beyond what was expected of them. This initiative reinforces then need for ongoing recognition, appreciation and praise…a few words, recognising the input and contribution of others, costs nothing but creates something very special. It aligns with the concept of leaders as changemakers, service and the concept of servant leadership….all of which are important to me. Finally, a shout out to my own team - the People Team - without whom this exercise wouldn’t have happened. Working with colleagues in Communications, they take these initiatives and turn them into something shiny, tangible, which make a difference, nurture our culture and build a sense of place. #unsungheros #recognition #appreciation #service #servantleaders #culture

President @ U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council & North American Blueberry Council | Growing profitable demand & Advocating for blueberry growers
This is a great sit down discussion with Amanda on how we are growing, listening and adapting to best serve a growing, diverse and ambitious group of stakeholders. Working together, united, we can accomplish way more than any individual company or growing region. Even the biggest companies… This was certainly a takeaway from our convention in Tucson. I love that U.S.H.B.C starts with, “US.” It is that “us,” approach that will help grow the category, drive profitable demand for our growers and ensure the value of blues remains high. With how much runway still lies ahead for blueberries (60% of today’s purchases, dollars, are made by 20% of blueberry buyers and we are under 49% of households 🤯), the focus and opportunity must remain on growing the (blueberry) pie, not just fighting for the slice. Meeting together as an industry is key to helping remain focused and realizing these many opportunities still ahead for our growers. Join us in Denver! https://lnkd.in/g3dzMPPP Go blueberries! 🫐👊🏼🫐
The Industry Feedback from the 2024 Blueberry Convention delivers unique insights into the evolving landscape of the blueberry sector. In this episode of "The Business of Blueberries," host Kasey Cronquist, president of the USHBC/NABC, is joined by Amanda Griffin, CMP, IOM, vice president of engagement and education at U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council and North American Blueberry Council. “The change is we are going to smush over the convention to the fall and essentially take away the summit, and have one large event in the fall called The Blueberry Convention. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the end of the season, gather everybody together, and that is where we will grow the trade show floor to have more expansive education offerings and more opportunities for folks to gather and to meet,” said Amanda Griffin vice president of engagement and education at USHBC and NABC. #GoBlueberries #InspiringPossibilities #TheBusinessofBlueberriesPodcast https://lnkd.in/gTskHY8D

Exciting Announcement! Please join us in welcoming Helen S. Medina as our inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the World Spirits Alliance (WSA). With over 15 years of experience in global public policy processes, Helen brings a wealth of expertise to lead our organization toward its purpose, vision, mission, and strategic priorities. As a multicultural professional with a dynamic background, Helen's leadership will be instrumental in advancing the WSA's work of uniting spirits producers worldwide, advocating for industry interests, and promoting best practices to address societal and environmental challenges. With over two decades of successful informal cooperation under its belt, the spirits producers and producer organizations from around the globe officially established the World Spirits Alliance (WSA) in 2019. The membership includes 11 leading spirits companies and 16 associations of spirits producers from around the world. It offers a common platform for industry representatives to share insights, work together on global issues to advance industry interests, and promote best practices to tackle societal and environmental challenges. Rooted in history and tradition, spirits are treasured products and distinguishing sources of cultural pride, enriching societies and economies. From the rice fields of China to the vineyards of France to the barley fields in Scotland and the sugar cane plantations in the Caribbean, each crop contributes to spirits production, sustaining livelihoods along the way. Did you know that the spirits industry is the most valuable alcoholic beverage? In 2022, the industry had $470 billion of retail sales value. And, as a sector, it supported 36M jobs in the same year. This is akin to the UK's entire workforce! This underscores its immense impact on global economies. Under Helen's leadership, we are entering a new era of collaboration, advocacy, and sustainability. Together with our members and stakeholders, we are in creating a world where every spirits moment is enjoyed responsibly and sustainably. #WorldSpiritsAlliance #Sustainability #Spirits #ExcitingTimes #NewCEO #Cheers 🍸 🥃 🌿

A day or so in London, this time for the Events industry, Cross Association, DEI Working Group. People in the events world never cease to amaze me. How they can be unfazed by challenges, and deal with them with a confident smile and a plan almost as if the unexpected is expected. The fact that that it was also the first day for Catherine Beck as Chair of a large industry cross networking group when the main speaker is suddenly unable to attend, demonstrates not only her resourcefulness, but also that in their world there is no translation for the word crisis! There was so much to glean from the meeting. This is an industry going through change and it means doing something we focus on a lot in Mindsmith Thinking, changing perspective. It was great to hear how companies were improving, staffing to address the effects of the long hours culture, the way age and experience are viewed, and continuing to push the boundaries with flexible working and paternity leave. All necessary steps in an industry that has to be creatively focused on outcomes, but having a growing realisation that people organisations are having to become equally creative with the talent that produces them. The Chair concluded with the clarion call for "less talk, more action". This is a group where things will happen, in an industry in need of the ideas and support. A really productive meeting hosted at the New Scientist Building and thanks to the AEO Association of Event Organisers and ESSA team for making the arrangements.
Thank you to our Cross Association HR and DEI working groups for an insightful combined session yesterday. Our exploration into age diversity was fascinating and eye opening. Appreciation to Jacqui McCarron and Georgia Hill for generously hosting us at the New Scientist. Catherine Beck Mike S. Katrina Rowbury, MCIPD Jessica B. AEO Association of Event Organisers ESSA

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🍀 March 17th marks a global celebration honoring Ireland’s patron saint, known for spreading Christianity. Traditionally, it meant church visits and closed pubs, but in 1737, Boston hosted the first parade, later adopted by Ireland. While cherished by the Irish diaspora, it's embraced worldwide as a day of Irish pride and camaraderie. Whether Irish or not, everyone’s welcome to join the festivities, but it's crucial to celebrate respectfully. If your office plans a party, consider incorporating traditional Irish food or getting creative with themed treats. Keep decorations culturally focused, emphasizing leprechauns and clovers. Setting guidelines for attire ensures a respectful atmosphere. Avoid inappropriate costumes and educate on sensitivity around pinching, which can be misconstrued as harassment. If concerns arise about cultural appropriation, remind that St. Patrick’s Day evolved from celebrating Irish heritage amid discrimination. Alcohol poses challenges, so consider limiting drinks or opting for alcohol-free options. Encourage responsible behavior and offer safe rides home. Incentives like late arrival or free lunch can deter post-celebration absences. Ultimately, fostering a festive, inclusive environment boosts morale and engagement. Let’s celebrate responsibly and enjoy the spirit of the holiday! 🎉 #humanresources #saintpatricksday #officeculture

#sustainability #nobelprize Burgers, fries, and soda, the American version of German meat and potatoes with a drink, from the icon of American cultural globalization, the golden arch of Ray Kroc’s McDonald’s, gave the comeback kid from Hope, Arkansas, Bill Clinton, a triple bypass. Taste and health cannot be more perfectly uncorrelated, -1, or are they perfectly correlated, 1, because what Clinton and Bill Gates consider taste is reality the lack of it? This lack of taste is giving the planet a nona-bypass along all the nine planetary boundaries, as the Amazon burns to let the cows graze to feed the world’s growing appetite for their flesh along with economic growth and aspiration of the one human family to converge. Gates wrote a book on climate. Invested in how to mitigate cows passing methane. But his addiction to money and cows remains, undermining both his book and investments. The way to save humanity is not to make rounds of both Norway and Sub Saharan Africa, far far above and far far below the equator, the Great White North and the Great Black South, but walking the talk on global sustainability. Does this sound good or do you want me to give you consent to talk about my vision to showboat and make a quick buck?
Growing up, my family spent a lot of time—and made a lot of great memories—at Burgermaster. My dad actually did a lot of early Gates Foundation work sitting in one of the corner booths at the Laurelhurst location—to the point that people even sent him mail there. Happy National Burger Day to all who celebrate.
