NATO Chairman of Military Committe, Admiral Rob Bauer : For the first time since the end of the Cold War, we have objective, threat-based capability targets to offer to Nations. These targets will have a significant impact on future investments and developments of Allied Armed Forces. NATO and national military planning are now integrated like never before. In order to be successful, these plans will have to go hand in hand with: • Much higher stocks of ammunition and spare parts, made possible by a steep increase of production capacity in our defence industries. Which is not the case yet. • Real achievements in enhancing military mobility, where Allies decrease their infrastructure dependencies on for instance China; • And crucially: we need strengthened Enablement, especially in the Land domain. Main Effort is the Land Domain. Centre of Gravity (COG) in that domain, during Defence, is Mechanized Infantry.

What if the US scales back its NATO commitment? This comparison of key military assets between the US, other NATO allies, & Russia highlights the stakes. It also underscores Europe’s need to prioritise investments in: ► capabilities predominantly provided by the US. ► assets crucial for both European and Indo-Pacific theaters, so they can be repurposed. In his latest commentary, Giuseppe Spatafora sets out a roadmap to sustain EU-NATO cooperation under the new Trump administration. 👉 Read his take: https://lnkd.in/eHiFix-3 #NATO #Trump #TransatlanticRelations #EUdefence

⚔️ Not really a surprise… French General Calls for Reducing Red Tape to Enhance Military Mobility in Europe In an interview with Politico, a senior French general emphasized the need to cut "incredible" red tape to move troops and military equipment across Europe more efficiently, in order to deter potential Russian aggression. (Full article on https://lnkd.in/eHbE7Kmy) General Bertrand Toujouse, head of the French army's newly created land command in Europe, highlighted that during the Cold War, moving military equipment was "very simple" but has now become "extremely complex." “It is absolutely necessary to bring military mobility back into the consciousness of Europeans, and for this we need practice”. He stressed that if russia attacks a NATO country, European and American soldiers need to reach the alliance's eastern flank as quickly as possible. Currently, this is hindered by administrative processes, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of transport capacity. #ukrainewar #nato

#NATO is the strongest military Alliance in history. Gen. Philippe Lavigne, as NATO Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, successfully led the integration of #NorthMacedonia, #Finland, and #Sweden into the Alliance. Their armed forces are now fully interoperable within NATO’s framework, showcasing the strength and unity of #NATO as it grows stronger with each new member. Military integration within NATO is complex and strategic, requiring harmonization of national defence doctrines and systems with NATO’s standards. This interoperability allows member states to communicate, manoeuvre, and operate seamlessly, enhancing the Alliance's readiness and security. The NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) ensures new members align their military standards, equipment, and procedures with the Alliance, making NATO stronger, more agile, and better prepared for future challenges. #WeAreNATO

Armenia's strategic decision to procure military products from nations like India and France is commendable. However, the ability to replicate or improve upon these products independently is crucial for long-term self-reliance in defense compared to its peers. History shows that Germany, pre-WWII, rapidly advanced its military capabilities from small arms to pioneering jet planes, highlighting the significance of indigenous innovation. Ultimately, the outcome of conflicts is often shaped more by political factors than sheer military strength. #Armenia #MilitaryDefense #SelfReliance #HistoryLessons

The key to enhancing NATO multinational interoperability lies in fostering increased contact among allied nations. I recently presented a plan to foreign liaison officers from Finland, Spain, Latvia, Poland, Italy, and Netherlands within the US Army Europe. The proposal aims to boost NATO interoperability through an Observer/Coach/Trainer exchange during a U.S.-led military exercise at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Germany. The exchange offers a valuable opportunity for military specialists to observe allied operations, exchange best practices, and share knowledge. These small yet meaningful interactions among allied forces play a crucial role in enhancing shared understanding and strengthening international cooperation. #NATO #MilitaryInteroperability #AlliedForces #KnowledgeSharing

Alona Lebedieva: The Impact of the War in Ukraine on Political Stability in Eastern Europe The war in Ukraine has led to a significant increase in military spending in Eastern European countries, particularly in Poland and the Baltic States. For instance, Poland has raised its defense budget to 2.5% of GDP and expanded its military alliances through participation in NATO-led international military exercises and strengthening bilateral agreements with the USA. By 2022, Poland had already invested about $6 billion in modernizing military equipment and infrastructure. The Baltic States have also significantly increased their defense budgets in response to the threat from Russia. Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are actively investing in modernizing their armed forces and increasing military personnel. https://lnkd.in/dNMy2mTg
