Buildings alone account for around 40% of energy consumption in the EU. 🏫⚡️ A new AI- and IoT-based solution enables the members of GovTech Midtjylland, a joint venture of the municipalities of Syddjurs, Aarhus, Denmark, to gain insights into their energy consumption and benchmark against historical data. IoT sensors provide an accurate view of how room bookings are used outside school hours, forming a basis for optimization. Based on the forecasting data, schools can prioritize efforts to maximize energy reductions. With the new EU directive demanding all countries cut energy consumption in public buildings by 1.9% annually, the solution is already proving its worth. Implementing this model nationwide could save all schools 34,966 DKK on average, according to GovTech Midtjylland’s 2023 report “Optimized Building Use" with AI. Michael Spence is a professor at Stanford University and winner of the Nobel Prize for Economics.
