Who needs a governance board? I conducted a poll to assess the perceived value of governance meetings 82% of respondents said the governance meeting supported the business, while 18% stated that meetings were run just for the Ofsted Inspections. I find it quite disturbing that several training providers are running these meetings for the sole purpose of meeting an agenda from an outside organisation. I would be interested in understanding the circumstances that led those providers to believe that governance did not help their company progress. Obviously, I am a little biased being a governor on several boards. I believe the governor’s role is to have an objective view of the facts and figures being reported by the company and to have the ability to dig into that information to tease out, sometimes marginal, gains to improve the delivery of the programmes. I feel that if an activity genuinely improves delivery of a programme to all learners , then that in itself meets the needs of the company as well as the demands of the inspectorate. Something that 82% of respondents agree with How do you use your governors board?
