NII's Jessica Linthorne attended the Ontario Marine Council (OMC) event at the Economic Club of Canada this week, where Premier Doug Ford received the inaugural "Ontario Marine Champion" award for his leadership in developing Ontario’s first Marine Strategy. Hon. Prabmeet Sarkaria emphasized the economic value and benefits of the marine sector—something the Clean Energy Frontier knows well as part of the Great Lakes region. Frank Hurkmans of Goderich Port Management Corp. highlighted how collaboration between diverse sectors has led to a significant reduction in emissions by keeping trucks carrying necessary materials off Ontario’s roads. NII recognizes the importance of the marine industry in supporting sustainable transportation and reducing emissions, aligning with our commitment to environmental stewardship and economic growth in the region.

NII Explore's Heat and the Environment program, sponsored by Bruce Power, just reached its 50th class of 2024! ⬇️ The two-hour workshop teaches local Grade 7 students about the greenhouse effect, climate science and the importance of non-emitting energy sources. Students complete a hands-on lab experiment to study our atmosphere's effect on the Earth's temperature. They then compete in a "climate quiz" before debating possible strategies to reduce carbon emissions at both a personal and global level. "The debates were awesome," commented one teacher. "The experiment required constant work so the students were consistently engaged. SO valuable and applicable to curriculum."
