The Private Sector contributes about 70% or more to healthcare service delivery in Nigeria. Likewise, roughly 60% of healthcare financing in Africa comes from the private space. What this means is that strongly supporting PPPs will, to a great extent, catalyse the sector growth we want to see in the continent. The World Health Organization estimated Nigeria’s hospital bed capacity to stand at 1.2 per 1000 people in the year 2000. By year 2004, it had declined drastically to 0.4 per thousand. More recent statistics suggest a slight improvement, with the capacity now standing at 0.9 per 1000 people. However, these numbers highlight the challenges facing our healthcare system, particularly in meeting the needs of our growing population. No one truly understands how scary the ineptitude of healthcare service delivery can be in Nigeria until they are the receiving end. But here's the crazy twist, even the medics aren't winning.The healthcare system in Nigeria is notoriously not staff-centered but "capitalist-centered". Claims on refunds on payment procedures are classic administrative woes that are etched on by self-centric individuals whose value system is based on performative values rather than an inherent value for human life. That is what happens when competency and proper values are side tracked for nepotism and biased value systems. Medical Credit Fund | PharmAccess Backs Microhaem Scientifics's Healthcare Expansion in East Africa. Medical Credit Fund Africa (MCF) has partnered with MicroHaem Scientifics and Medical Supplies Limited (MSH) to strengthen Uganda's health system and expand healthcare services in East Africa. This week, I was invited by a local radio in Douala Dynamic FM 103.9 to discuss healthcare in Cameroon and share more about our work at KapFou ♥. I was asked a lot of interesting questions among which some of the more relevant ones I think I can share with you 1. What is KapFou? (Kap = money Fou = medicines in Medumba). KapFou is a medical remittance platform from anywhere in the world to Cameroon.
