Stark disparities exist between the health access and outcomes experienced by the population of the UK evidenced by a stalling in life expectancy (and related measures of public health) whereas, in other high-income countries, it continues to rise. The priorities for the NHS long-term Plan therefore are to target these health Inequalities both “at pace” and “at scale”. Driving Patient-Centered BioPharma Development | Maximizing the Impact of Advocacy & Patient Engagement
#Healthcare must be a priority all the time—not just during election season, when it’s often used as a talking point to win votes but 𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Millions of Americans are living with chronic conditions and rare diseases, and we need consistent, long-term policies that focus on improving access to innovative treatments, not just temporary fixes or sexy buzz words to designed to score political points. As Kasia Mulligan wonderfully points out, we need a continuous, focused conversation on healthcare policies that prioritize access to breakthrough treatments and long-term patient care. When critical issues like access to medication and innovation are only addressed sporadically, we all lose, and so do the #patients we’re working for. #HealthcareAccess #PatientAdvocacy #HealthcareInnovation #IRA #HealthPolicy #PatientOutcomes #HealthcareAdvocacy #PatientCare

Navigating Challenges: Ensuring Medication Access for All. Recent news underscores the challenges facing independent pharmacies across the United States. Financial strains threaten closures and raise concerns about equitable medication access, particularly for vulnerable communities. Research already shows socio-economic disparities in healthcare access, including local pharmacies. As we confront these challenges, we must recognize that there's no quick fix. I support the solutions mentioned in the article: - Increased financial support for struggling independent pharmacies. - Advocacy for regulatory reform at state and federal levels. - Fostered collaboration between independent pharmacies and other healthcare providers. Additionally, we should explore: - Telepharmacy and Telemedicine: Expanding these services can bridge gaps in medication access, especially in underserved areas. -Education and Outreach: Increasing public awareness about the vital role of independent pharmacies is crucial. - Policy Advocacy: Efforts to address systemic issues like high drug prices and regulatory burdens are essential for ensuring equitable access to medications for all patients. https://lnkd.in/e2KX6KPr #MedicationAccess #HealthcareEquity #HealthcareAdvocacy

Lord Darzi's report on the state of the #NHS in England is a stark reminder of the challenges ahead in fixing the health system. The NHS may be broken but it’s not beaten. However, radical change cannot be achieved by the NHS alone; close collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry will be crucial in driving innovation for the benefit of patients. We need bold, fresh thinking, and a commitment from government to accelerate the adoption of new solutions that help to advance our growth potential. The next generation of medicines and enhanced partnership with industry will be crucial in delivering on this vision, from disease prevention to care closer to home and much more. https://lnkd.in/e5JqThd5 #Lifesciencespowerhouse #Innovation #BMSUK #BMSEmployee

For Ross Phan, P., the fact that high prices in the U.S. put patients in a position where they are almost forced to look at foreign sourcing of their prescribed therapies is unconscionable: “This is a public health concern, especially for the growing older adult population, a group of patients that is usually on a fixed income and ineligible for easily accessible copay assistance programs.” “Understandably, people will find ways to obtain less costly medications — like ordering prescriptions from abroad. Therefore, instead of being in denial about this, I would rather take up the challenge and help these individuals. I am committed to giving patients reliable, accurate, and balanced information to help them determine the next steps — alongside their healthcare providers — that are best for their current situation. If they decide that getting a prescription from abroad is the next best step for them, then I would like to ensure that the international pharmacies are safe through fair and rigorous audits and inspections.” https://lnkd.in/gg-4beVZ

Huge impact on public health maybe just around the corner and that can help the NHS moving forward. The onset of generic weight loss drug competition will likely significantly reduce the price of originals, and this means the NHS can afford to treat more patients. This has a broader population health benefit as greater access to weight loss medicines will reduce the crippling strain obesity-related conditions have on NHS resources.” In the UK, generic competition typically reduces prices paid by the NHS by as much as 80% to 90% after loss of exclusivity, according to the BGMA. #health #healthcare #weightloss #nhs https://lnkd.in/eNj8_j3h

Kudos to Latvia🇱🇻 for taking concrete steps to improve people's access to medicines 👏🏻 When you need medicines, you should be able to access them without experiencing financial hardship. Latvia’s Ministry of Health recently unveiled a roadmap that will be a game-changer— it aims for a 15–20% reduction in prescription medicine expenses. It will address long-standing concerns about high medicine costs with strategic policy changes, such as expanding the list of reimbursable medicines. Great to see that the crucial role of pharmacists is also being recognized by the Ministry, which is planning to strengthen their involvement in primary health care. Learn more about this move, that will not only ease financial burdens but also promote #UniversalHealthCoverage and #HealthForAll: https://lnkd.in/dvAd6NwY Tamas Evetovits WHO Regional Office for Europe
