Biodiversity forms the backbone of a sustainable and resilient global food system 🌳🐝🪱🥗 From soil health to pollination, diverse ecosystems play a key role in ensuring food security and nutrition for a growing population. As species disappear and ecosystems degrade at an alarming rate, the stability and productivity of our agricultural landscapes are compromised. This will lead to: 🌾 decrease in crop yields 🐞 increasing vulnerability to pests & diseases 🥗 weaker nutritional density That’s not all. Biodiversity loss worsens the affects of the climate crisis. Ecosystems — from trees to soils to peat lands — are huge carbon sinks. They are vital for pulling emissions out of the atmosphere and slowing climate change. As we clear our forests and degrade our soils, the less nature is able to mitigate climate change. At Nupo Ventures, we realize the urgency of addressing biodiversity loss and its implications for food security and climate resilience. We are committed to fostering innovation in the food and agritech sector by building sustainable businesses that prioritize biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration 🌱🐛🐝🐟 As a sustainability-driven venture studio, we have a role to play in reversing biodiversity loss and being #PartofThePlan. By adopting regenerative farming practices, investing in nature-based solutions, and supporting farmers in adopting sustainable land management techniques — we can build a future where food production works in harmony with nature, not against it 🌾🌳🌍 . . . . #biodiversity #foodsystems #foodandag #agritech #vc

Today we celebrate the International Day for Biological diversity, an initiative of the Unitednations offical. The global theme of this year is “Be part of the plan”, an international call out for all stakeholders to halt the loss of biodiversity. For Crop's 's , as a European leader in frozen vegetables & fruit, it is important as well to keep biodiversity high on the agenda, it is at the core of our activities: “Protecting and taking care of biodiversity is essential because having biodiverse ecosystems brings a lot of advantages: it enhances more resilience towards climate change, contributes to both pollination and pest control and improves the wellbeing of people. At Crop’s we therefore have set a clear ambition to work progressively on this topic together with all our stakeholders, both on our production sites and together with our farmers in the fields”, says Joachim Hollevoet, Sustainability Manager at Crop's Watch the video below to see one of the best examples we currently have within our group. Happy international biodiversity day everyone! #biodiversityday #partoftheplan #sustainability #vegetables #fruit

Be part of the Plan! 🤝 May 22nd marks the International Day for Biological Diversity 2024! This annual observance aims to raise awareness about the importance of #biodiversity conservation and sustainable utilization of natural resources. 🌍 This year's theme, "Be part of the Plan", highlights the need for collective action in addressing biodiversity loss. It emphasizes the role of individuals, communities, and governments in implementing strategies to protect and restore biodiversity. 👥🐝 Biodiversity is vital for ecosystem stability and resilience, supporting essential services such as pollination, water purification, and climate regulation. However, it faces numerous threats, including habitat destruction, pollution, and climate change.🌿🤝 Our portfolio company Trapview promotes sustainable agriculture contributing to the EU Green Deal target of reducing the use of #pesticides by 50% and its goals on protection of Ecosystems and Biodiversity. Trapview’s automated traps send real-time data to farmers about the pest situation in their fields allowing them to take informed and timely crop protection measures in a targeted manner instead of spraying entire crops with pesticides preventively. 🚜 Aphea.Bio is also working on preserving a richer biodiversity. Aphea.Bio’s products are designed to reduce both the use and risk of chemical pesticides and fertilizers, and therefore, to produce more food on less land and more sustainably with less inputs and safer products. 🌾 Through strategic investments and partnerships, ECBF aims to promote sustainable practices and technologies that mitigate biodiversity loss. Together, we can work towards a future where biodiversity thrives, benefiting both ecosystems and human well-being. 💚 #sustainable #venturecapital #circulareconomy #bepartoftheplan

A warm welcome to all present here. Speech on topic: forest and innovation. By Abdurrahman Dunoma Forests help in maintaining water cycle, oxygen and carbon dioxide balancing and providing shelter to many species on earth. Forests cover nearly 30% of the earth’s land. Deforestation results in destroying the habitat for many species of animals and birds, imbalance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the ecosystem, water cycle disruption, climate change, soil erosion, fewer crops, floods and droughts, greenhouse gas effect, etc. Deforestation is the process of cutting down the forest, without replanting them again. The causes for deforestation are to obtain wood and fuel or to use the land for farming, mining or construction. From the time of civilization till now, forest wood is very essential for humans in our day to day life. Climate change and biodiversity loss are among the challenges that the forest sector has to grapple with. This means that innovation is very critical for the future of forests as the sector seeks to advance solutions to these and the problems in the future. But what does innovation really mean, and what does it entail? It can be simply defined as the process of implementing a new idea and creating value for your target, which could be stakeholders, companies, and or individual customers. Innovation can take different forms and shapes; it could be an improved product or service or an updated method for running operations, or a new business model. Conclusion Educating people around us would create awareness about the negative effects of deforestation. Planting more and more trees and using renewable wood resources can be of great help. Eating less meat or turning vegan would protect the forest from livestock ranching. Reduce and recycle the use of paper. The government must have forest-friendly policies. It shall ban the cutting down of forests. If each one of us pledges today to follow the above steps, then together we can ensure a better future for us and our planet. Thank you. Happy world international forest day 2024 Dunoma Farm & Consulting Services Ltd Tekuhorticulturefarm #WorldForestDay #fightagaintdeforestation #standwithfarmerschallenge #Standwithafforestation

https://ow.ly/egHz50QjIoW In an era marked by rapid environmental changes and growing concerns about food security, the importance of biodiversity in agriculture cannot be overstated. Biodiversity is not just a buzzword; it is the backbone of a resilient and sustainable agricultural system that can feed our planet's ever-growing population while preserving the delicate balance of our ecosystems. Improving biodiversity is a central part of the Group’s sustainability strategy and is vital to our reduced use of agrochemicals and our path to net zero. By taking the ecology of our land into account, our Group operations contribute not only to their own economic sustainability but also to the broader goal of creating resilient and environmentally friendly food systems. This shift towards ecological consciousness in agriculture is crucial for addressing the challenges of resource depletion, biodiversity loss, and climate change. #biodiversity #agriculture #foodsecurity #sustainablitiy #environmentalchange

According to the World Resources Institute, in 2022 we lost 15 soccer fields worth of biodiversity every minute, with our agricultural system being one of the leading drivers of devastation. According to the UN Environment Programme, our current agriculture system based on animal proteins is the leading cause of #deforestation and biodiversity loss. We are continuously deforesting more land in order to grow more feed crops for 80 billion animals in factories, 10x more than people on earth. We could give that food, filled with protein and fiber, directly to people. Instead, we give it to animals, which need more land, water, time and feed, requiring more deforestation and biodiversity loss. It’s an unfortunate and inefficient vicious cycle, depleting our natural resources while also not producing enough food to feed a growing global population. With population growth expected until 2050, our inefficient food system drains our natural resources, which are not in unlimited supply. By investing in Plant-based Innovation to further food systems transformation we can more efficiently use our resources and stop the rampant biodiversity loss that is happening around the globe. For example, an LCA by Blonk Sustainability shows a plant-based burger compared to its analogue uses ⛰ 97% less land 💧 97% less water 💨 produces 90% fewer greenhouse gas emissions, and ⚡️ uses 37% less energy.
