As technology advances, I hope that more voices like Murray's inform the #neurodivergence movement which has been limited to date primarily by those who have language abilities. In my clinical experience, so many autistic children or children with neurodevelopmental disabilities are underestimated. I know that early understanding of neurodevelopment can have a profound change on how we can support these children and drastically improve their quality of life which is why the work we are doing Cognoa is so important. #earlyiseverything https://lnkd.in/gJdGmbD3

Watched this newly released podcast by Andrew Huberman last night - Dr. Karen Parker: The Causes & Treatments for Autism Really interesting watch talking about some interesting research being done in this area of science - the biological basis of autism. My Key Takeouts & Reflections: 1. There is still a wide array of funding challenges that prevents quality research being done that could potentially benefit the Autistic community. 2. The diversity of differences that exist within the autistic experience (the spectrum is not horizonal) and challenges to test for individual genetic make-up, prevents us from having a simple pharmaceutical solution to the real challenges that some autistic people face when trying to integrate into neurotypical environments - e.g. social cognition, emotional regulation, anxiety & sensory issues. 3. I got scared about their discussion about Oxytocin because of the archaic & outdated argument that autism was the result of lack of mother & child bonding - but what I understand they are saying is that the deficit of hormones such as Oxytocin & Vasopressin could chemically be contributing to a particular style of social behaviour. It helps us understand the underlying biological factors contributing to certain behaviours & why behavioural interventions without considering the chemistry are likely to be unhelpful. However, when their conversation referred to autistic traits as 'impairments' or defects I felt a bit uncomfortable. But very interesting research, none the less. I even listened to this one, beginning to end! https://lnkd.in/dU2twG-E #neurodiversity #neuroinclusion #TheAUsomemummascommunity

Valuable research right here on financial wellbeing of autistic adults. Thanks to the autistic individuals and to the research team Ru Ying Cai Gabrielle Hall and Liz Pellicano for sharing these important insights 👏 ANZ Autism CRC #financialwellbeing #autisticadults
How does autism affect the #financialwellbeing of Australian adults? The answer is tricky because not much research exists on the topic. To tackle this problem, a team of academics have engaged in a ground-breaking study to detail the experience of autistic people. Autistic adults found it harder to make ends meet, faced job insecurity and limits on their career development. ANZ and the Australian Cooperative Research Centre for Living with #Autism funded the research and it’s valuable findings by Dr Ru Ying Cai at Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect), La Trobe University; Gabrielle Hall at University of Technology Sydney and UCL's Professor Liz Pellicano. https://lnkd.in/grJ9u3Sn
