And herein lies the crux of why we are far from providing all children with the support they need, still years away from closing the inequality gap, and light years from achieving true social mobility. 💬 “Three quarters of head teachers said they’d had to reduce the number of teaching assistants, despite an increase of 20% in the number of pupils.” A welcome mention from Lord Watson in a House of Lords debate which focused on our research on school funding ⤵

Today is an exciting day. A little more than a year ago, the small classical school that I had the pleasure of serving announced it would cease operations. It was a tough call, but the right one. There was no one decision, event, or person that lead to its closure. Several decisions that didn't work out, some decisions that weren't made, and a tough market were all contributors. The months leading up to the decisions were quite positive and exciting, we felt momentum, but we also knew a significant change would have to be made. We believed that the school would need to adopt a cottage school (less than 5 days a week) option or shift to only offering that. There just wasn't enough gas in the tank to make the change, and tough decisions had to be made. In the middle we asked, what was the purpose of all the planning for a cottage school? The day the school announced it was closing a small group of parents and teachers began discussing how they could continue to do school together. Out of those conversations, The Oaks Classical Cottage School was born. It's the first cottage style school in our region. Tonight, our head of school will give a state of the school report that will share the details of how the year has gone so very well. Healthy financials, engaging faculty, a collaborative and fun board, and enrollment that is proof positive that there's a market for a school that teaches truth and values the family here in the river region. And me? Well, I get to be the lawyer in downtown USA, helping folks make decisions that impact the future of their loved ones, something I've always dreamed of doing. Going through a rough patch? Something far better is on the other side. #headofschool #classicalchristian #cottageschool #classicalschool

Indiana colleagues-the state is proposing new high school diplomas starting with the class of 2029 (current 7th graders). Public comment is open. Please review the proposal and share you thoughts with DOE and the state board of education. Indiana is now ranked 50th (yes the bottom) for the number of school counselors per student (we have 1 counselor for every 694 students in this state according to the American School Counseling Association). Connecting students to the options in these diplomas will require adequate counseling and corporate/school partnerships. Here are the proposed changes https://lnkd.in/gEipK_ib Here is the comment form https://lnkd.in/gN32f-Vr

Schools are working hard to ensure that the ongoing RAAC issues don't disrupt the education of their students. However, these issues can make it tough for schools to put their best foot forward during open days, and some schools may not even be able to accommodate parents as they usually would. That's why we recently partnered with Our Lady's Catholic High School to create an amazing virtual open day experience. This way, parents can still get a feel for all the great opportunities their child will have if they attend the school. Plus, it's a great promotional tool that the school can use year-round. Check out Our Lady's Catholic High School's virtual open day here: https://lnkd.in/eRntQBvw Virtual open days are a fantastic way for schools to showcase their strengths, even if they can't host a physical open day. They're also a great way to reach potential students who live far away or can't attend a physical open day for other reasons. If your school is dealing with RAAC issues, consider hosting a virtual open day. It's a great way to show parents and students what your school has to offer, and it's something you can use all year long.
