THIS WEEK is our 2nd Anniversary.. and we're #movingforward to deepen our work to empower residents, staff and communities. We will continue to be: 🌟 Focusing on the people in nursing homes. We have four projects underway being pilot tested in order for best practices to be promote nationally. These projects specifically empower residents to have control over their personal and community life, and #CNAs to grow in their career and nursing home roles. 👉 We'll be releasing a microsite later this week with "how to" guides. 🌟 Strengthening our voice for consensus of solutions. We're continuing to bring together diverse voices to identify solutions (big and small) we can all agree on. 👉 This week we'll have three consensus-backed federal policy recommendations to move forward with necessary shifts. 🌟 Seeking partners as we can't do it alone. 👉 We need help funding and scaling other promising projects to: incentivize household models, ensure surveyors have training in person-centered care, and make person-centered care planning a part of nursing home electronic health records. So great to be in post-production! @NoCountryforOldPeople is needed now more than ever as Congress advances a bill to ban CMS from setting minimum safe staffing standards in nursing homes. This is the product of the millions of dollars in nursing home industry campaign contributions and lobbying (mostly paid with taxpayer dollars, by the way). It ignores the findings of a new study, Tunneling and Hidden Profits in Healthcare (Mar. 4, 2024), that analyzed related party transactions data for Illinois nursing homes (the Feds and nearly all other states don’t require nursing home owners to report related party transactions). Key takeaways: -      63% of nursing home profits were hidden and tunneled to related parties through inflated transfer prices. -      industry groups representing providers who rely heavily on public reimbursements plead poverty to advocate for higher reimbursement rates or against costly quality regulations, pointing to public cost reports that indicate artificially low or even negative profits due to tunneling. -      related party implied markups are substantial. These large markups correspond to staggering hidden profits...estimates suggest that reported nursing home profits reflect only 37.1% of total profits as of 2019. We should all be outraged that Congress is bending the knee to owners who have for years secretly tunneled billions of dollars in profits from their nursing homes (funded mostly by taxpayer dollars), while claiming they can’t afford adequate staffing and need more taxpayer dollars to stay in business. This. Teaching “Family & Friends CPR for the layman, is something I enjoy doing for this reason alone. The more who know how to recognize the symptoms and act fast, the better. There is no certification at the end, though it is super informational and the cost is minimum in comparison to the traditional heartsaver course. The resources are all AHA so the gold standard is there! I beg of anyone to push for these, you can work them into more than the average individual may realize; They make for effective team dynamics exercises for work. Mom/parent group meet ups? Book a local instructor. You could find an amazingly engaging instructor (cough cough wink) and host one at your next family reunion. Practical baby shower addition for the friends and family. I have taught this course for all of the above and more. Family & friends is a cost effective AHA curriculum course and it teaches the basics of hands only CPR. Almost ANYONE can save a life. But most importantly, #educationsaveslives

A great way to gain insight into the proposed rule!

There is no replacement for a training environment where you hear the noises, smell the smells, and feel the stress. A few rounds of training in this simulated environment and both the physical and emotional self become more prepared for the real thing. After Parkland, we instituted "MCI Mondays" where EMS trains with PD in an abandoned building with artificial smoke and fire alarms blaring. It brings another element to the training that solidifies the learning and improves confidence. How do you provide "stress inoculation" to your front line personnel?
