Tomorrow is the Fourth of July and Keystone Light is ready for the festivities. The brand released a limited-edition, patriotically-themed package of its standard lager beer in honor of our U.S. service members. The American flag not only frames the box but also adorns each can. Consumers praised the star-spangled look: 68% preferred to purchase the limited-edition design, while only 32% preferred the original package. One consumer shared, “I like the red, white and blue package with the USO and support for service members. My spouse is a veteran, so this means a lot to us and all who support the military.” Another said, “The packaging is perfect for the upcoming 4th of July. How do you best showcase your brand in film? Do you shout about it with your label everywhere? Or do you focus on the customer experience, which tells the story for you? Here is an advert I've recently come across for JCPenney. It tells the beautiful story of a couple buying a serving dish, and straight away as a viewer, you are sucked into the story. We see different life events unfold with the serving dish being at the heart of it. This, for me, makes the film memorable and makes me want to buy the product as I feel the connection with the brand. 🚫 Today's Discovery: The "No Hawkers" Sign 🚫 While out on appointments today, I came across a sign that read "No Hawkers" and was curious as to the history behind this phrase. Traditionally, "hawkers" refers to individuals who travel about selling goods, typically with loud advertising. This term has roots stretching back to the Middle Ages, where hawkers played a crucial role in rural commerce, bringing goods and news to isolated communities. However, as cities grew and retail shifted to more established storefronts, the presence of hawkers began to clash with the evolving urban landscape. The "No Hawkers" sign is a relic of a time when businesses and homeowners sought to deter these itinerant vendors from soliciting in certain areas, aiming to maintain privacy and reduce the disruption caused by the often loud and persistent selling techniques. Every year, me and my partner watch all the Christmas ads we can find. I find it useful because: 1. I get to put my planning hat on 2. She offers the 'real people' view I can't help but wonder if we should do more of this stuff as a standard. Sure, ask what the ECDs and CSOs and people around Boxpark think... ... but also make sure you add the views of someone from Bolton. Someone once asked me about what the future of the industry is. I keep going back to one word. Perspective. Inner perspective (why are we here), but also outer (who is this for). I'm not big on new year wishes, but perhaps this is one to consider.
