My 90-seconds of fame. It was such an honor and privilege to represent the V Foundation on ESPN during the Jimmy V Classic Basketball tournament. I got to jump hoops at Madison Square Garden but most importantly got to witness first hand the commitment that V foundation has to raise funds for cancer research. I proudly wore my University of Wisconsin-Madison Badgers Jersey. New project seeks to guide AI use in treating neurodegenerative illnesses The 10,000 Brains Project is a new non-profit collaborative aiming to expedite the use of AI in combating neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. This Oakland-based initiative is pairing up major organizations to provide leadership, expertise, and funding to integrate AI into research for advanced diagnostics and treatments. The partnership involves the Milken Institute, the Rainwater Charitable Foundation, and the Robertson Foundation. The first task is to create a 'roadmap' for worldwide researchers to adopt AI in their work, with a focus on precision medicine. While the complexities of neurodegenerative diseases remain a challenge, AI offers a promising avenue for progress. This is my biggest accomplishment! Over a decade ago I had this “crazy” idea to print under the microscope images of cancer on luxury fabrics. I wanted -what I called haunting beauty- to spark conversations about early cancer detection. I was so passionate. At the time I was a cancer researcher about to hear the news of my husband’s, Jeremy Picker’s, stage 3 cancer diagnosis. A few years later I left my corporate job to get this mission focused venture off the ground. A crowdfunding campaign, so friends, funded ÉSTAINE’s first product. We formed partnerships with key non-profits fighting cancer, we supported fundraisers, we were pumped to make a difference. We were on local news, on Bloomberg news, talking to The Wharton School, Vogue and Oprah magazines. But it was hard. A self funded social impact business, only scratching the surface of making an impact, and far from making sales to pave way for next steps. In midst of this, Jeremy was finally in remission! And we had two beautiful kids. Entrepreneurial spirit was high, but life focused on other wins. ÉSTAINE stayed alive in the background, making small in-kind product donations to support the fight on cancer, the reason it all started. I kept dreaming. Another Breastcancer awareness month and I am so excited to say that ÉSTAINE is still striving to spark the difficult conversations around the importance of screening and early detection. If I can help save one life, founding ÉSTAINE remains my biggest accomplishment. Do good. Do well. When St. Baldrick’s began, one early priority was to prevent a predicted shortage of trained pediatric oncology #researchers. We began by funding 2-3 years of training for St. Baldrick’s Fellows. But that wasn’t enough. Imagine you’ve spent 8 years or more in college and medical school, then 3 or more years in a fellowship training program… and now you must compete for scarce #research funding with scientists who have been at this for decades. Since 2008, St. Baldrick’s Scholar awards have given these well-trained young investigators 3-5 years of funding to make an impact in childhood #cancer research. During those years, they are also building a track record that can be used to obtain funds from National Cancer Institute (NCI) and others, preparing for many more years of discoveries leading to #cures. Without this award, some may have continued to treat patients, but lacked the funds to pursue new research ideas. Today, we are proud to see that many former St. Baldrick’s Scholars are recognized worldwide as leaders in their fields. Hats off to St. Baldrick’s #volunteers and #donors for making that possible! #researchishope #researchmatters #philanthropy

Q: Why do TFRI-funded researchers wear purple for the Terry Fox Run? ⤵ A: By ensuring that TFRI-funded researchers are clearly visible, purple shirts serve as a reminder that the Marathon of Hope continues as we work toward making Terry's dream of ending cancer through research a reality. If you haven't purchased your 2023 Purple Terry Fox Run T-shirt designed in collaboration with Ryan Reynolds and the Fox Family, you can do so at https://lnkd.in/gr5eZRpc. To register your research team for the 2023 Terry Fox Run and join the challenge, please have one of your team members visit the team sign up page on The Terry Fox Foundation website and complete the process (https://lnkd.in/ggi_usRe). To help identify TFRI research teams, include “TFRI - " before your team's name. Then, share your team’s name with potential team members, and ask them to register, join and start fundraising! We hope to see you out there on September 17! #MarathonofHope #cancerresearch #researchers #TerryFoxRun

Experienced Marketing Leader skilled in problem-solving, AI-powered marketing, and relationship-building.
I went to a fundraiser last night at Merrimack College with a few good friends (my brothers Alma matter Jon Goode). …but the fundraiser was to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer - something that has affected all of us. But in addition to that good we did there, I found myself at a table with an eager group of young men and women who were interested in my job and career… and left them with two critical pieces of advice. 1. NETWORK: Even if they are working at a Starbucks or in a daycare, never burn a bridge and nurture those relationships with people. You never know who your next connection or boss could be. 2. LEARN: Never stop learning, and right now, learn more about AI and how it can be used as a force for good. The next gen that becomes SMEs in AI and specialized AI use cases will be the talent we hire next!! Have a great day! 💕

What is ResearcHERS? ResearcHERS gives influential women the opportunity to help raise funds for some of the country’s most exciting cancer research projects led by women. Simply put, it’s women fundraising to support women-led research. Women bring diverse and unique perspectives to cancer research, making invaluable contributions and discoveries. However, women are continuously underrepresented in research leadership. We want to change that. As a program of the American Cancer Society - a top supporter of women in cancer research - we can sustain the pipeline of talent and engage those in the field to help impact the number of women in leadership roles. But we need your help to do it. Interested in joining us to support women-led cancer research?? Let's connect! #ResearcHERS #cancerresearch #Indiana https://lnkd.in/gBdixfJS

💡 STUDENT SPOTLIGHT 💡 This month, we’re featuring The University of Texas at Austin student and Philanthropy Chair of Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity, Andrew Wilson. This year, he helped lead his chapter to raise over $20,000 to fight #ChildhoodCancer. Keep reading to learn more about Andrew’s involvement and dedication to the cause. Q: Why is fighting childhood cancer with B+ important to you? A: Each member of our ZBT chapter has been personally affected by cancer, whether through a family member or a friend. Our engagement with The B+ Foundation in the fight against childhood cancer is deeply meaningful to us. It goes beyond just providing essential support and funding for research; it cultivates a sense of unity and shared mission within our chapter, bringing us together for a profoundly noble and impactful endeavor. Q: What are you most looking forward to about your chapter’s partnership with B+? A: This year we welcomed our B+ Hero, Valentin, into our ZBT chapter. Spending time with our youngest and newest member has been a great experience. As we enter the second semester, we are very excited to create more memorable and enjoyable moments with Valentin and his family. We are also committed to intensifying our fundraising efforts to support even more families! Q: What is your best fundraising tip? A: My top fundraising advice is to choose an organization that genuinely resonates with you. When you're deeply invested in the cause, fundraising becomes more effortless and fulfilling, as you share a strong connection with the outcome that benefits the recipients.

No question - the best part of college was Camp Kesem. 💫 Camp Kesem is dedicated to supporting children and families affected by a parent's cancer diagnosis year-round. I had the incredible opportunity to work with and support those featured in the article below. While I urge you to delve into the full piece, I wanted to share a few poignant quotes that perfectly explain the magic of this organization: “I’m really glad I got to go that summer because I don’t know what I would have done without it. Being a child with a parent battling cancer can be an incredibly isolating experience. The support system that Kesem provides is monumental. It creates a space where shared community becomes a lifeline. "I wasn’t totally alone. I had a group of people I could really talk to, who would really understand what I was talking about." “The support system is the biggest thing that I would say that I’ve gotten from camp. It’s very alienating, I would say, to be a kid and have a parent who has cancer." “You’ll get a lot of pity. It’s coming from a good place, but at the end of the day, that’s not what a child needs at that age. They don’t need pity, they need support. They need companionship. They need to know that there are other people who are also going through the same thing they are, and that’s exactly what Kesem does for these kids. It gives them a sense of community rather than being ‘the kid with a parent who has cancer.’” When asked to encapsulate what Kesem represents in one sentence, the response was powerful: “Resilience.” In sharing this, I hope it sparks awareness and underscores the crucial role organizations like Kesem play in fostering resilience, support, and community for those who need it most. #KesemMagic #CancerSucks https://lnkd.in/grSpZ6Zq
