Meet Barry, a veteran now working on the North East Link tunnels. After serving in the Australian Army as an infantry soldier between 2006 and 2013, he transferred to the Army Reserve in Melbourne which included a short stint at Simpson Barracks. His service included international duty in East Timor, as well as assignments closer to home such as Operations Bushfire Assist, COVID Assist, and Storm Assist. After leaving the Army, Barry reached out to Ironside Resources and the Inclusive Jobs team at Spark North East Link Tunnels D&C who aligned his skills and experience with a role on the North East Link tunnels as a diesel clerk. North East Link will create 12,000 jobs throughout Melbourne’s north east, with priority jobseekers including veterans to fill 1000 positions on the North East Link tunnels. Thanks to all the veterans who have worked or are working on North East Link. Learn more https://bit.ly/3Ue5Kr0

Job hunting can be a very tough road to navigate, but it's even harder when it feels like rejection is the only response. Even with an active secret clearance, and over ten years of military service the job search still feels like an uphill battle. #veterans #employment #jobsearch #supportveterans

Service Members transitioning to Civilian life, Think of job hunting as a military operation. It demands strategy and patience. 1) Pinpoint Targets - Don't scatter resumes. Focus on select companies aligning with your abilities and values. 2) Wait Strategically - Delay follow-ups, allow employers time to digest your application. Patience is key, desperation isn't. 3) Embrace Silence - No response? It's part of the game. Move onto the next target. Our upcoming sales training emails will guide you through this mission. Remember, you've conquered greater battles. Stay resilient, you've got this! #veterans #dodskillbridge

In the great game of career hunting, there is a quote one of my old colleagues used to say… “Never underestimate the laziness or unpreparedness of your peers” The job hunt is a competition. As in sports or any other competitive environment. The candidate that is polished and prepared is going to fair better than one that is not, more often than not. It is you vs all the other candidates. Contrary to your belief, you are not the only SNCO, Sr officer, Warrant, or Civilian applying for that job. You are not the only person in the world with your background. When you think about it that way, how do you stand apart from your peers? A Fully Tailored resume & Interviewing skills is what sets you apart from the rest. Skills worthy of practice. You may be able to get by with just one, but the further you climb a ladder, the more you are going to need both. I shared a pic today of a scenario in Afghanistan at Kandahar Airfield in Jan of 2001. We had a CH-47 attempt to land with NOGs on and the sand blinded them. They hit the ground too hard and ripped their landing gear off. Fortunately we were prepared. We jumped in our forklifts and got the pallets to sit down for the helo to land on saving the lives of this crew and the gov a little bit of pocket change for not losing that aircraft. Preparedness! Thanks Patrick J. Kelly for the quote. #veterans #military #milspouse #hoh #hiringourheroes #hiring #prepared

Security Career Security has been my career for a quarter of a century since leaving the British Army. Last night I was in a restaurant and during a conversation with a gentleman and his family, his wife asked me what I had done previously in Security? For a moment I was thrown. How do you sum up, effectively what you have achieved over 25 years in a short sentence? It's just a polite conversation in a crowded restaurant; so very briefly I struggled to paint a complicated picture. That incident has led to a desire to mention a collective that sums up my Security career in this post. (Military career aside) I decided to start with what I consider the most important; For me personally the time I spent, abroad from the UK, as an Armed Security Operative is top of the heap. This included Diplomatic and Celebrity Escorts and Close Protection. My Best Friend continued in this venture and has recently been killed in the line of duty. The years I spent in the UK as Mobile Rapid Response and High Speed Pursuit Driver are very close to my heart as they were my introduction to Security. My time spent on Surveillance and Maritime Security were great experiences. Working alongside Special Branch, Immigration and Customs at Border Force. Providing Security for Major Motion Picture productions on location like House of Dragons and Half Light. Plus Live Concerts like Rag 'n' Bone Man and Noel Gallagher were extremely enjoyable. Along with Security at the Welsh Conservatives Conference and the Welsh Open Snooker. I also provided Security at a Restricted Access Government Covid site back in that strange era. So you see what I mean. I wanted to sum all that up in one sentence - I failed. Should that lovely family be scrolling through Linkedin and come across this post; This is what I wanted to say in answer to your question. To everyone else; You are only limited by the cage you build around yourself. We are, after all, our own worst enemy. Keep Reaching. #securityindustry #career #security #military #veterans #northwales #securitycareer #securityprofessional

Transforming sales reps into the most highly rewarded AND sought after Sales Athletes. Not by using old, obvious, and offensive sales techniques but by adopting the life changing mindset of an Elite Sales Athlete.
You probably know the slogan of the U.S. Marine Corps: The few. The proud. The Marines. Here’s a lesson sales teams can take from our nation’s best: Getting good applicants gives you the best chance of putting together an elite unit. Instead of hunting for high-potential sales reps, give them a reason to come to you. I heard a story of a Marine recruiter visiting a high school. Representatives from every branch of the military took turns speaking to the student body, making their pitch for why people should serve their country as a soldier or pilot. When the Marine recruiter got up to speak, he used only three lines: “Most of you aren’t cut out for the Marines. If you are, come talk to me. I’ll be outside.” In a matter of seconds, the recruiter hooked the attention of a few students who took those words as a direct challenge. They wanted to prove they were more than cut out for the toughest assignment. If you want to build a sales team of the best and brightest, you shouldn’t need to convince anyone to join. Throw down the gauntlet and see who responds. Those are the reps you want on your team. See YOU in the gym today. On purpose... WITH purpose! Timmy
