Exciting news for Western Australians! The Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre and its surrounding underused waterfront site will undergo a major transformation. Leaseholders Wyllie and Brookfield unveiled a modernised design that preserves the current 16,500 square meters of convention halls while expanding the building over the Mandurah train line and Mounts Bay Road, reaching all the way to the river. This exciting project will unlock a pipeline of construction jobs for Western Australians while diversifying the economy for years to come. More about the PCEC redevelopment: - a business case for the redevelopment will be finalised and presented to the State Government for evaluation in mid-2024. - the new facility will include an additional 4500 of convention space, a new 650-seat floating theatre, an auditorium and three new jetties. - it will also make space for premium hotel, housing and commercial opportunities. - it is anticipated to open by 2029, so it can host the 2029 LNG conference which turned down Perth as its host city last year because the convention centre was too small. Ultimo Pyrmont Amendments now on exhibition! The City of Sydney is seeking feedback on amended planning controls for certain sites in the Ultimo Pyrmont area. The changes bring into effect the vision set out years ago in the Pyrmont Peninsula Place Strategy. The exhibition documents include a planning proposal to amend the Sydney LEP 2012, Sydney DCP 2012 amendments, and a new Infrastructure Contributions Plan. The key take-outs include: • ~60 sites identified for change with increased height, floor space and small lot housing controls, including 2 sites rezoned to allow for residential uses • Introduction of sun access planes, tempering heights to retain solar access to existing residences • Capacity for 4,100 new dwellings and 8,700 new residents • Capacity for 20,000-27,000 new workers • A new 1-3% levy based on estimated development cost (note: this impacts all sites, not only those with uplift) • A 9% affordable housing contribution for uplift residential floor space Submissions are open until Wednesday 13 November 2024, with a target for finalisation of the amendments by July 2025. Get in touch with the Beam Team to discuss further insights. Chris Forrester Michael Rowe Brendan Hoskins

"If the government wants to support housing, it should improve the conditions for building contractors first" 🏢📈 The discussion titled Viziónari featured a blend of public and private sector representatives, among them Juraj Nevolník, the Managing Director of Penta Real Estate Slovakia. The debate explored the current state of real estate market, property prices and the factors influencing them, as well as predictions about the future and public housing 🔑 The discussion sheds light on the reasons behind the anticipated construction of new office buildings in Bratislava, the factors that have encouraged people to return to offices after the coronavirus pandemic, and ways in which changes to the zoning plan can make housing more available 🏙️ You can listen to the entire discussion at: https://lnkd.in/ec5unpPt

SO WHAT HAPPENED AT Big 5 Construct South Africa I took a few days to gather my thoughts on the recent tradeshow and I would like to share my honest experience with you; for whatever my opinion is worth to the LinkedIn community. As a general comment, the expo was well run, not much to complain about but an overwhelming sense was that the expo size was much smaller than I have ever experienced. To be fair this shouldn't come as a surprise due to so many companies restricting their marketing budgets in the current climate. When I was preparing for the tradeshow I was convinced that South Africa was still stuck at the "steel instead of wood roof truss" stage of the CFS journey but I was completely and utterly wrong! What I instead experienced was a hunger and curiosity for new and better ways to solve our construction crisis. I found myself having conversations about full modular factories for RDP housing projects, rapid-build solutions for disaster relief, multi-story residential buildings without the use of concrete, unique mini-warehouse solutions, bathroom/kitchen pods for high-volume developments, concrete/CFS hybrids, light-weight facades and so many more fascinating discussions. Southern Africa is still very much in its infancy when it comes to building with light-gauge steel, and concrete, bricks and mortar are not going to disappear any time soon. But, we are bound to see a wave of creativity and innovation take over in the next 5 years and I for one am very excited for the possibilities on the horizon. I am leaving the show feeling optimistic for our industry despite the political uncertainty that was a constant unspoken elephant in the room and if anyone agrees with this sentiment, I am sure we will be working together sooner than you think.

Forth Ports submits proposals for next phase of Harbour 31 as part of Leith regeneration Forth Ports Limited is moving forward with phase two of Harbour 31, known as The Dry Dock at Harbour 31, a new creative and commercial hub on land to the east of Edinburgh Dock within the Port of Leith. The Proposal of Application (PAN) submitted to The City of Edinburgh Council is the next phase of the wider Harbour 31 development plans for the area and follows on from the Planning Permission in Principle (PPP) submitted in March this year for 337 new homes and approximately 244sqm of commercial space. This PAN identifies specific opportunities including business, general industrial use, storage and distribution, training/education facilities, with retail, food and drink uses on a site situated to the east of Edinburgh Dock at the Port of Leith; integrating land at the port into the wider community in and around Leith. https://lnkd.in/ec-U3QYm #ports #regeneration #maritimeconnection #ISeaSMEs #socsea24

Director General @ Construction Products Europe | Senior Association Leader | EU Affairs | Communication | Stakeholder Relations | Sustainability, Circular economy | Moderator | Mentor | 20+years of high impact results
This afternoon I will represent Construction Products Europe aisbl at the Belgian Renovation Week conference that will kick off at 16:00 and run until Thursday. As indicated, with the event, the Belgian EU Presidency focusses on European policy makers, recognising their pivotal role in shaping regulations and standards that can propel the renovation movement. Ahead of these four days, it is worth remembering that in 2022, 17% of the 198 million EU households were overcrowded, 7% of EU citizens were unable to keep their homes adequately warm, around 15% lived with a leaking roof, and 8.3% spent 40% or more of their household disposable income on housing. Let us make 2024 the EU year of housing solutions! https://lnkd.in/eUDRVuQj #housingcrisis #EU2024BE #constructionindustry #BelgianRenovationWeek2024

Effective rents? Supply? Vacancy rate? Has anything above [*insert your size] sqm been leased nearby? How much available space is there in [*insert your location]? How many sqm are under construction? Which planned projects have building permits? How does my offer compare to the competition? – These are the questions that keep commercial real estate experts up at night. Would a more transparent market help us sleep better? Piotr Smagała will try to answer this question during the opening keynote of the 15th edition of the Office Market Conference: Trends & Outlook, organized by Eurobuild CEE. The event takes place on October 17th in Warsaw. Who's up for a high five that day? #CommercialRealEstate #OfficeMarket #TrendsAndOutlook #EffectiveRents #VacancyRate #MarketTransparency #CREInsights #RealEstateData #PropertyTrends #Eurobuild #OfficeSpace #REDD
