Hong Kong, often hailed as โ๐๐๐ถ๐ฎโ๐ ๐ช๐ผ๐ฟ๐น๐ฑ ๐๐ถ๐๐โ, must now live up to that grand title. Our destiny lies in Hong Kongโs continued viability as a global financial centre. Letโs think globally and construct โbridgesโ that span continents. Hong Kong should become a place where cultures converge, #entrepreneurial spirit flourishes, and the heartbeat of the world pulses with energy โonce again. Now, letโs heed our own advice. Hong Kongโs traditional sectorsโbanking, finance, and legal services โ form a strong foundation. Now, letโs embrace entrepreneurship and take calculated risks. Seek resources and funding to turn workable ideas into viable businesses. 2. Hong Kong boasts of top universities and research institutions. However, breakthroughs often remain confined within academic walls. True pioneers donโt merely theorise; they bring ideas to life. Attract the interest of businesses and #investors both regionally and globally. โก๏ธ In summary, promoting innovation, taking calculated risks, and collaboration are essential for Hong Kongโs success on the global stage. Founder: deploy: Helping early-stage investors find better deals through crowdsourced expertise and active field intelligence.
๐จ Spoiler Alert:๐จ My position is "Possibility" The real conversation needs to be had around the 'how'. Steven Roach has been taking a ton of heat for his assertions that Hong Kong is 'over', but when one looks past the sensationalism of the headline, I agree with his key message, that is: "What's over, in my opinion, is the imagery that many still cling to in looking into the future of [an] understandably proud city, Asia's world city, known for its very free market," Roach said. That city "is not the Hong Kong of today, and especially not the Hong Kong of tomorrow." There seems to be no real plan for what the Hong Kong of tomorrow is. My experience working in regional corporate innovation, building Neon! Ciders and now with a technology startup in deploy. have all been incredibly rewarding, but even more so extremely difficult especially in the Special Administrative Region. Join me and my fellow panelists Andy Chan, Joon Nak Choi, Raymond C., Carrie Hang-yin Ling, and Vincent See for what is sure to be a lively discussion on the "how" we make Hong Kong into a thriving innovation ecosystem. Stepping into the role of Chairman at The British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (BritCham) is both an honour and a challenge. As I take the helm, I'm reminded of a recurring theme in Hong Kong's history: our resilience. Every decade since the 1950s, naysayers have written off Hong Kong. Yet, time and again, we've proven them wrong. This adaptability is at the core of my vision for BritCham. We're not just weathering change; we're harnessing it. Here's how: 1. Redefining Hong Kong's brand: Beyond finance, we're championing Hong Kong as a hub for creativity, technology, and social impact 2. Embracing the Greater Bay Area: Hong Kong isn't just part of this initiative; we're positioning it at the heart of GBA development 3. Expanding our influence: We're looking beyond our borders, aiming to strengthen Hong Kong's role in Southeast Asia and China 4. Fostering diversity of thought: In a rapidly evolving landscape, fresh perspectives aren't just welcome โ they're essential BritCham isn't just a business network; it's a platform for innovation and progress. We're shifting from a transformational phase to a high-performance mode, introducing a new committee structure and tech platform to drive our mission forward. As the new BritCham Hong Kong Chairman Jeremy Sheldon, I'm committed to fostering open dialogue not just within our Chamber, but across Hong Kong's diverse business landscape. Whether you're a long-time resident, a recent arrival, or considering Hong Kong for your next venture, your voice matters. I want to hear from all corners: What's your vision for Hong Kong's future? What challenges do you foresee, and what opportunities excite you? How can we collectively shape a Hong Kong that thrives in this new era? Let's challenge the status quo, push boundaries, and showcase Hong Kong's boundless potential to the world. Together, we can write the next chapter in Hong Kong's success story.
