We know exactly what it will take to address plastic pollution. Ocean Conservancy's Vice President of Conservation, Ocean Plastics Nicholas Mallos outlines these 3 (not-so-easy, but straightforward) steps: 1️⃣ Reduce. Cutting the amount of plastics—especially single-use plastics—that we produce is foundational. 2️⃣ Manage (collect and *actually* recycle.) We must push for policies that make recycling plastics easier, safer, more accessible and more effective, and that starts with requiring the plastics we use to be truly reusable and recyclable. 3️⃣ Clean up. Even when we achieve the most ambitious plastics reduction and management targets, we will still need to recover 40% of the plastics that pollute the ocean each year to reverse course. Good to start with those who will inherit the massive problems associated with plastic pollution in our oceans. Flidgywumper Saves the Seas is a children's book that engages/entertains and educates, but most importantly inspires children AND the adults in their lives to care and act toward turning the tide of plastic pollution that worsens every day. The book is linked from www.flidgywumper.com along with a directory of organizations working to address this issue. And feel free to help us spread the word about the consequences of polluting our Seas.
Conversion of plastic and tire waste into an energy carrier (e.g. heating oil, diesel, grill coke, syngas) To date, I have been approached several times, but they expected 100% funding from me without investing their money. For example, in oil-rich countries like Nigeria, the government has to fund projects if they don't want their country to be covered in waste. It is a social advantage if small villages are supplied with locally produced energy, thus creating local jobs for the local energy-using population from waste collected locally, small equipment for micro power plants can also be manufactured locally Our innovation in environmental protection is the use of microwave technology The main advantage of steam plasma reactors is that there is no nitrogen in the microwave steam plasma., so there is no nitrogen oxides, minimum carbon dioxid and odorless the flue gas. The hydrogen introduced into the reaction space with the steam plasma slows down the reactions of gaseous sulphur, phosphorus and free chlorine formation to remove in the gas purification unit. When reacting with chlorine-containing substances, water vapor plasma does not produce dioxin, which is one of the most toxic substances. www.gumienergia.hu

Agree...and we also need to resource efforts in this order too! Waste avoidance and reduction of both consumption and production are critical yet the focus on recycling and cleanup solutions still seems to dominate.
Thank you for such important work!
Thank you for your leadership, Nick

🌱We could not agree more and Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging is a policy that does all 3️⃣! 1️⃣ Reduce: reduces the volume of packaging produced 2️⃣ Manage: manages recycling stream by ensuring markets exist for recyclable packaging and increasing recyclability 3️⃣ Clean up: clean up the packaging leftover by charging fees for less sustainable and non-recyclable packaging, funding recycling infrastructure and ensuring proper disposal.
