With all eyes fixed on the green grass of the pitch for the Euros this summer, nature remains in freefall as global leaders, businesses, and human activity fail the world’s forests on a catastrophic scale. While we all avidly watch the Euros, every 30 seconds an area of Amazon rainforest larger than a football pitch will be destroyed. The Amazon is home to nearly 50 million people along with countless species - around 10% of known species on earth. And worldwide, forests provide livelihoods for 1.6 billion people and regulate our climate. The loss of forests globally is already having an impact on the football pitch, with tens of thousands of matches cancelled, which will only get worse. Through its Amazon Appeal, WWF-UK aims to reduce the impact of climate change across the world by stopping deforestation in the Amazon, protecting forests and rivers, and restoring habitats for people and wildlife. We are calling on football fans to unite and support our campaign to stop deforestation, while protecting the game they love. Brilliant film 'Don't take my home' below created by Daniel Field and our amazing team ⚽ 🌳 🌎 https://lnkd.in/gafh_7VQ Protect the Amazon. Protect the Future - https://lnkd.in/gbFSzRP3

🦁🌳 The Wildlife Trusts, a coalition of the UK’s leading nature and climate groups including Chester Zoo, The Wildlife Trusts, and Wildlife & Countryside Link, recently organised an insightful debate with representatives from the major political parties. As someone who isn’t British, I sometimes find it challenging to fully grasp UK politics. However, this debate was incredibly enlightening and provided a clear overview of the different policies and strategies each political party has in mind to address the critical environmental issues facing the UK today. 🌱 Kudos to The Wildlife Trusts and all involved for facilitating such a valuable discussion! #ClimateAction #NatureConservation #UKPolitics #EnvironmentalDebate #TheWildlifeTrusts #ChesterZoo #WildlifeAndCountrysideLink #Sustainability #GreenPolicies

Caitlyn Hanley, our Climate Action Planning Fellow, describes the environmental impacts of artificial snow making. "While snowmaking has been a successful band-aid solution to the much larger climate problem, the imbalance of artificial to natural snow has introduced grave environmental concerns...On average, it takes 200,000 gallons of water to cover an acre with one foot of this type of snow. Such snowmaking efforts interfere significantly with the ecosystem's natural water table and an overall capacity for snowmelt." Read the full blog! ❄

https://lnkd.in/dukFjWeJ 499 million views and counting! Can't believe our animated giraffe v elephant water fight is about to hit half a billion views on YouTube. Surely this must be the most viewed environment or conservation video ever? Sharing from Richard Lee!!! WWF produced this brilliant video with Marko Klijn & the team from Cirkus in 2018 to highlight the growing risk of water scarcity due to our mismanagement of water, climate change and the ongoing degradation of rivers, lakes, wetlands and aquifers. And it's still just as relevant today. Because sadly, the water crisis has only worsened since then but water and the importance of healthy freshwater ecosystems are definitely rising up the political and business agenda (maybe this video helped?). Too slowly - but decision makers are finally starting to value water and freshwater ecosystems. Now they urgently need to invest more in protecting and restoring them. https://lnkd.in/euTC-gyW Stuart Orr Henk Ovink James Dalton Mina Guli Lewis Pugh Eliud kipchogeLucie Klijn Hammad Naqi Khan Sheheryar Khan Sohail Ali Naqvi Tom Freyberg Christine Colvin Colman O'Criodain WWF - Pakistan Joe DixNiharika I. Please. Please. Please. Often we see misinformation about climate change. Many people focus on just one or two areas. Climate Change is complex, requiring lots of resources, and it's hard work. Please watch this story about one Elephant. One Elephant drowning in a deep well. One Elephant impacted by human activity. AND it's the collective efforts of so many to save one Elephant. Never forget that human activity effects every aspect of the planet's ecosystem. Please watch this video, and see the best example of coming together. Please share, like. and learn. 🌏🌏🌏🌏🌏 https://lnkd.in/gy43VcfH

Who would win the Net Zero Olympics? 🏅🌲 With our reflections on the sustainability efforts of the Olympics over the past two weeks, we were wondering what a Net Zero Olympics might look like and who would be likely to win. Energy Efficiency? #NetZero #Sustainability #SustainableOlympics #NetZeroOlympics #EcoOlympics #ClimateActionHeroes #EnvironmentalChampions #GreenOlympics #GreenMedals
If protecting and restoring the global environment were an Olympic Discipline…who would take gold? Although the Olympics are coming to an end, swipe through to see some of the winning species, ecosystems and most pressing issues.

Land Back is more than a hashtag, slogan or trend. The legacy of colonization not only impacted Native communities through the attempted genocide of people, but it also came with ecocide (the destruction, damage, or loss of ecosystems). It severely harmed the environment, including deforestation, pollution, contamination of water sources, and the extinction of species. When Native peoples, the original stewards, return to their ancestral homelands it not only strengthens Tribal sovereignty, it repairs and improves the health and quality of the environment as a whole and provides solutions to address climate change. As Mishewal Wappo Tribal member, Desirae Harp describes: "We need to know our language, history, stories, ceremony, and traditional ecological knowledge in order for us to understand our relationship with nature... If other people do not listen to our stories, then the world will lose the knowledge of how to be in balance with all of our relations." Do you want to learn how to strengthen Native communities through the Land Back movement? 😀 Check out our Steps to Land Back film series and more resources today on our website: https://lnkd.in/grwNbqrm
