It's time for the governments of Lagos and coastal towns and, cities in Nigeria to get serious about flooding. The coastal cities may be submerged in the nearest future. Climate change, marked by increasing global temperatures and rising sea levels, has significantly impacted some areas, highlighting the need for environmental conservation. The Solomon Islands exemplify the severe effects, experiencing sea level rise three times the global average, leading to the disappearance of five islands and substantial land loss on six more. While the Solomon Islands are heavily impacted, climate change poses a global threat, with at least 20 other islands and eight U.S. east coast cities at risk of submersion by 2100 if pollution and resource overuse are not curbed.(https://lnkd.in/gVPa-KKu). As the summer Olympics approach, Paris has spent $1.5B USD to clean the River Seine. With the goal to use the river for some of the water events. With improvements to wastewater and stormwater treatment, all eyes are on if the river will be safe to swim in. The article points out testing for E.Coli that was 2.5 times the recommended limit for swimming, which could cause serious illness. While there is concern for the safety of the water, the political officials have pledged they will take the first plunge. With Natura Solve, we could reduce the E.Coli levels, and not have to worry about if there will be a slight rain in the past couple weeks. With inconspicuous, mini growth tanks, we would swap the E.Coli for bugs that won't make people sick. As the summer is in full swing 🌞, one of the topics covered currently at MAURICE Project is how to save water that needs to be replaced in swimming pools 🏊♀️ 🤽♂️ . A working meeting between project partners was held on Tuesday 6th of August in Miasto Jaworzno to present the results of the work carried out so far in Miasto Jaworzno, Poland and Město Nový Bydžov in the Czech Republic. In Poland, Główny Instytut Górnictwa - Państwowy Instytut Badawczy and Miasto Jaworzno are preparing to install the blue-green infrastructure in Park Gródek in Jaworzno. We will be testing different types of substrates that are best suited for rainwater infiltration and building a rain garden that will collect rainwater and gradually release it back into the ground. The Czech partners presented concepts for the treatment and use of rainwater in Novy Bydzov. Experts from Technical University of Liberec, PHOTON WATER TECHNOLOGY s.r.o. and Město Nový Bydžov are working on using rainwater for applications in the winter stadium and, after appropriate treatment, in the Aquapark swimming pool. Swimming pool water is usually characterised by microbiological contamination. The use of appropriate #rainwater #treatment #technologies will enable its use to meet the requirements of daily water replacement and at the same time reduce the consumption of drinking water. We also had the opportunity to listen to the experiences of partners from GeoZS - Geological Survey of Slovenia about #Ljubljana pilot action. The Slovenian pilot investment in Tivoli Park aims to establish the boundary conditions for infiltration, with inclusion of development a #map of #infiltration #capacity, based on a comparison of apartment blocks and single-family houses.

Kick-off meeting BlueDiversity https://lnkd.in/dBZvaNaq BlueDiversity - the Interreg Italy-Croatia 2021 - 2027 project for the creation of replicable models for the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems starts on Monday 23rd September, 2024 in Lecce, Italy. On 23 and 24 September 2024, the kick-off meeting of the BlueDiversity project, financed by the Interreg VI - A (2021 - 2027) cooperation programme involving the Italian and Croatian regions bordering the Adriatic Sea, will be held at the Rectorate of the University of Salento (Piazza Tancredi 7, Lecce, Italy). University of Salento, leader of BlueDiversity project through the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences and Technologies, coordinates an Italian-Croatian public-private partnership consisting of two other research institutions - the Institute of Oceanography & Fisheries in Split (Croatia) and the University of Padova, two institutions both managing protected coastal areas - the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Areas of Nature in Split Dalmatia County - Sea and Karst (Croatia) and the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Natural Areas of Dubrovnik-Neretva County (Croatia), and two private Italian companies - namely Eduforma and Blue Marine Service. BlueDiversity aims to create replicable models to support biodiversity and the conservation of coastal ecosystems in the current transition phase towards a blue economy in the Adriatic Sea. Cross-border pilot actions focus on the application of innovative tools for the assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services, as well as sustainable practices in order to reduce human impacts and safeguard economic activities.

Jaws comes to Singapore waters! 😏🦈"Shark sighting at Sentosa’s Palawan Beach leads to brief halt of water activities". Actually man is more likely to kills these relatively dociles creatures than the other way around: "In May 2023, an abandoned fishing net on Pulau Semakau caused the deaths of 14 blacktip reef sharks. Carcasses of the reef fish and other marine life, including what was suspected to be a critically endangered honeycomb whipray, were discovered ensnared in a 300m-long gill net by researchers. In 2021, an abandoned gill net that killed at least 12 young blacktip reef sharks was found also on Pulau Semakau. Between that year and 2022, the deaths of at least 20 blacktip reef sharks and two hawksbill turtles were among those linked to gill nets near Singapore’s offshore islands." Abandoned fishing nets actually make up 50% of all plastic pollution not straws or anything else so woke, fishing nets!!! They also kills sharks and other marine life like in these examples. We should be much more concerned with how to fish sustainably and not ensnare these sharks which pose no threate to humans at all. What do you think?

The first training session for triathletes at the Paris Olympics was scrapped on Sunday due to pollution in the River Seine, organisers said.   "Paris 2024 and World Triathlon reiterate that the priority is the health of the athletes.
