  • 🚰 Gender & WASH: Why We Must #AccelerateAction At the current pace of progress, full gender parity won’t be achieved until 2158 (WEF). That’s 133 years from now—too long for women and girls to wait for equal opportunities, especially in critical areas like water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). The PepsiCo Foundation, in partnership with WaterAid Nigeria, is working to change this. Since 2022, we have: ✅ Built / rehabilitated 6 water and 4 sanitation facilities, reaching 40,000 people. ✅ Trained women as Local Area Mechanics, fostering leadership and technical expertise. ✅ Supported Volunteer Hygiene Promoters (VHPs)— leading hygiene education in their communities. But here’s the challenge: Most Volunteer Hygiene Promoters are unpaid. Their contributions are invaluable, yet they lack financial support to sustain their impact. So, what needs to change? 💡 Increased Funding: Donors and businesses should invest in gender-inclusive WASH programs that recognize and reward women’s leadership. 💡 Collaboration: We need multi-sector and public-private partnerships to scale these interventions and make gender equality in WASH a reality. This International Women’s Day let’s go beyond conversation—let’s #AccelerateAction. #IWD2025 #WASH4all #PepsiCoFoundation

  • In Rigar Jeji, Zainabu Adamu’s business sustains her family, but water scarcity threatens everything. Every drop counts when you’re running a food business, and the daily struggle to fetch water limits her ability to grow. With access to clean water, women like Zainabu can scale their businesses, support their families, and contribute to their local economies. Investing in water isn’t just about survival—it’s about empowerment and long-term change. WaterAid with support from DP World is working to provide clean water to the people of Rigar Jeji. With this, Zainabu will be able to expand her business and support more women to start their own. #WASH4all

  • 📢 Water Quality is Public Health! At the maiden edition of the Annual Water Quality Conference 2025, our Country Director emphasized a critical truth: Water is life, but only when it is safe. Millions of Nigerians still lack access to clean water, leaving them vulnerable to waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and diarrhoea—especially children under five. Climate change, industrialization, and open defecation further threaten water safety, making urgent action necessary. At WaterAid Nigeria, we are committed to strengthening systems, policies, and monitoring mechanisms that ensure every drop of water reaching homes is safe. This conference is a call to action—to drive strong policies, effective governance, and innovative solutions for a future where safe water is a reality for all. Together, with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation and all stakeholders, we are shaping the future of water quality in Nigeria. Let’s make safe water a priority! 💧

  • Isiaka a 36-year-old farmer says that the installed water facility has positively impacted their lives and farming activities. “My life has improved because I don’t suffer from infectious diseases like in the past. If it were before I can’t spend the whole day on the farm." In 2021 with funding from Diageo, WaterAid Nigeria installed a 10,000litre solar-powered borehole for two farming communities in Bauchi State under the Water Replenishment Project. #WASH4All

  • We're excited to share insights from our recent launch of the Accelerating Inclusive Sanitation and Hygiene Economy in Nigeria project. The Accelerating Inclusive Sanitation and Hygiene Economy in Nigeria project is funded by the United Nations’ Sanitation and Hygiene Fund (SHF) and the Ministry of Water Resources & Sanitation and implemented by WaterAid Nigeria to address market challenges and engage the private sector to create a viable sanitation economy in Bauchi State.
