Here we go – with the Country Managing Director at Accenture! 🔊 I had the opportunity to interview Hilary O'Meara, Country Managing Director at Accenture in Ireland. I would like to say a big thank you to Ms. O'Meara for taking the time and for inviting me to Accenture to do this interview. Curiosity 🤔 : She encourages those in the workforce to be open to continually learning. She advocates for an unyielding curiosity and commitment to personal growth, stating, "Continuously learning and developing is so important. People no matter what age or stage in life should have an appetite to learn, to be curious, because the world is changing so fast, that you risk being left behind if you don't." By cultivating these traits, she believes professionals will remain adaptable and relevant, and ready to navigate and succeed in the dynamic landscapes of modern careers. Camaraderie 🤝 : Hilary places significant emphasis on the centrality of interpersonal connections and nurturing talent in her leadership role, identifying herself as "very much a people person." She credits her tenure at Accenture to the deep bonds and sense of camaraderie she has fostered, stating, "I probably stayed in Accenture for 30 years because of the incredible people and talent I have the opportunity to work with." Her valuation of team dynamics is particularly evident as she discusses the workplace culture she aims to cultivate—one that supports young, skilled, and motivated employees. This focus on nurturing strong relationships not only characterises her approach to leadership but also highlights her dedication to fostering a supportive and vibrant workplace. Dealing with setbacks 💪 : She highlights the importance of addressing and learning from setbacks, viewing continuous learning as crucial for leadership and personal growth. She sees challenges and failures not merely as obstacles, but as opportunities to improve, in which she explains, "If I have a setback, I always talk about it. We'll always sit back and reflect as a team, wallow in the problem, so to speak, and come out of it stronger." This open discussion fosters a culture where setbacks catalyse future successes. Furthermore, she says to "reflect on the setback and learn from it. For every mistake you make, think about what could have been done differently." Her leadership is defined by a commitment to continuous learning and adaptation, guiding her team to not just recover, but to emerge stronger and more capable. Next up is a conversation with H.E Gary Gray, Australian Ambassador to Ireland in which he discusses the economic ties between Ireland-Australia, the areas of collaboration between both countries and his advice to students! #VoicesOfLeadership #Student #DCU #BusinessLeader #Accenture #Insights #Leadership

Survival of the Fittest is often perceived to be "the strongest will survive". Fun story - that's not true. Survival of the fittest means the creature who best adapts to its environment survives. It begs the question, are you adapting your business in 2024? Are you challenging your processes and procedures to adapt to the changing environment? Or will you continue to do things the way they have always been done? Here is a tip to get started on simple processes - Ask an employee why they do something the way they do it. If they say, "because that's what we've always done", there's your sign. Times are changing ... which means businesses need to change. What are you doing to adapt in 2024?
Happy New Year from KJM Consulting.

Rising from Expulsion to Excellence Naresh's upbringing, under the wing of his father, the owner of a prestigious four-star hotel chain, promised a life of comfort and privilege. However, academic achievement took a backseat for Naresh, who swiftly joined the family business with a second division BA degree. Remarkably, within just three years, he ascended to the coveted position of Managing Director. Yet, despite his rapid rise, turmoil struck after a mere two years when a severe conflict with his father resulted in Naresh's expulsion from the family business. Suddenly thrust into uncertainty, Naresh found himself at a pivotal juncture without the professional qualifications to secure a dignified position. Forced to rebuild from the ground up, Naresh humbly accepted a role as a waiter in a prestigious five-star hotel. However, it was here, amidst the daily hustle and bustle, that Naresh's innate talent for problem-solving shone brightest. As challenges arose within the organisation, Naresh's innovative solutions not only resolved issues but also garnered the attention of top management. In a remarkable turn of events, Naresh's exceptional performance led to his promotion to General Manager within a mere six months—a testament to his resilience, adaptability, and depth of experience. Naresh's journey serves as a powerful reminder that true leadership and wisdom inevitably rise above adversity, much like the fragrance of a rose emerging from the thorns. #resilience #leadership #adaptability
