As we delve into the rich tapestry of Canadian Black History, let's illuminate the extraordinary Harriet Tubman — an example of courage and compassion. Her legacy extends far beyond the historical confines — it's a testament to unparalleled leadership that transcended borders and reshaped narratives. 🍁 Tubman's Canadian Legacy: Often referred to as the "Black Moses", Tubman stands tall in the history of the Underground Railroad. With unwavering courage, she led countless individuals through perilous journeys to find safety and freedom in Canada, actively participating in the fight to abolish slavery. ⭐ Remarkable Achievements: Tubman's missions were not just daring; they were remarkably successful. Evading capture on every occasion, she made at least 10 trips and safely transported around 70 individuals, including her own family members, to freedom in Canada. Never captured, never losing a passenger—Tubman's resilience stands as a hallmark of leadership. In the face of obstacles, setbacks and danger, her unwavering determination demonstrates that resilient leadership is pivotal for overcoming challenges. Her legacy is a testament to the power of courage and compassion in reshaping history. 💭Reflect and Celebrate: As we honour Harriet Tubman this week, let's reflect on her extraordinary spirit and the courage that shaped the narrative of Black resistance. As #blackhistorymonth comes to an end, we are highlighting Rodney Earl Slater's career and contributions to the transportation industry. Slater achieved many "firsts" in his career, including being the first African American director of the Federal Highway Administration. We learned so much this month about how African Americans have contributed to the transportation industry - we hope you did too! I am elated to share that I was accepted into the Black Diplomats Academy as a cohort 4 fellow by Developing Young Leaders of Tomorrow, Today (DYLOTT). DYLOTT is a black youth-focused leadership incubator organization, geared towards changing the socio-economic outlook for marginalized communities. 📌 It is an utmost privilege to be selected as one of the 36 Black changemakers out of a competitive pool of 1000 + candidates ✨ 📌 With the BDA program, I am given the opportunity to meet and work with like-minded Black intellects across the globe who are equally passionate about diplomacy, global and public policies and socio economic issues faced by people of African Descent within the global realm. For the next 10 months, I will: ✅ Engage in meaningful discussions with global policy leaders ✅ Hone my diplomacy/advocacy skills ✅ Craft a research paper around global/public policies and socio economic issues, which will be presented at the Black Diplomacy Global Summit. ➕ much more! Moreover, I am mostly looking forward to being guided by the knowledge, expertise and exceptional leadership of Candies Kotchapaw Angelica J. and Danisha D.. It will definitely be an experience that I will forever cherish! In retrospect, being apart of this fellowship is truly a privilege and I am grateful for this opportunity! I look forward to challenging myself as well as delving into the realm of diplomacy, so that I can make meaningful changes within my community 🙌🏾. #Diplomacy #UNSDGS #GlobalPolicy #Blackempowerment
