🌟 Exciting developments in Electric Regional Transmission Planning 🌟 FERC recently announced the long-awaited Order 1920. This historic rule aims to revolutionize long-term electric regional transmission planning, support the transition to a cleaner energy future, and address critical infrastructure needs. Key highlights of the new rule: 📊 Enhanced planning: FERC emphasizes a proactive approach, requiring regional transmission planners to identify and anticipate future grid needs over a 20-year horizon. ☀ Integration of clean energy: The rule facilitates the integration of renewable energy sources and emerging technologies by ensuring planning efforts align with state and federal clean energy policies. 💰 Cost allocation reforms: New methodologies for cost allocation will ensure that the beneficiaries of transmission projects fairly share their costs, fostering more equitable and efficient project funding. 🤝 Stakeholder collaboration: Improved processes for stakeholder engagement in planning efforts will bolster transparency and inclusiveness, ensuring diverse perspectives are considered. This landmark rule underscores FERC's commitment to modernizing the grid, enhancing reliability, and driving the adoption of clean energy. As we advance towards a sustainable energy future, collaborative and strategic regional planning will be the cornerstone of a resilient and efficient transmission infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/gbkGiPFd #CleanEnergy #SustainableFuture #EnergyInnovation #TransmissionPlanning #FERC #RenewableEnergy #GridModernization

Today in Utility Dive: EPSA backs Rep. Balderson (R-OH) on latest bill addressing interconnection queue delays. EPSA President and CEO Todd Snitchler stated: “EPSA is a staunch supporter of the benefits of competitive markets; however, no economic model or structure can overcome inefficiencies in the interconnection process that can significantly delay critical investment in new dispatchable generation. This legislation appropriately creates a process that recognizes when reliability concerns require that certain investments be prioritized in the interconnection queue.” Read more 👇 https://lnkd.in/eqAWawxH #interconnectionreform #energypolicy #energyexpansion #energytransition

Principal Carolyn Berry submitted testimony before the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities concerning the Electric Sector Modernization Plans (ESMPs) filed by Eversource, National Grid, and Unitil (the electric distribution companies, or EDCs). An ESMP is a plan to proactively upgrade an EDC's distribution system and, where applicable, transmission system to meet the decarbonization objectives of the Massachusetts Climate Act. Dr. Berry’s analysis focused on the proposed timeline, load forecasting methodologies, proposed investments and budgets, benefits calculations, and coordination with ISO New England.
