This week at IAC2024, a combined U.S. space delegation met with the UAE Space Agency, including H.E. Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi (Chairman) and H.E. Eng. Salem Butti Salem Al Qubaisi (Director General), and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, including H.E. Salem Humaid Al-Marri (Director General). Topics of discussion included the #ArtemisAccords, the Lunar Gateway airlock, international coordination of space situational awareness (SSA) information, and growing space commerce between the United States and UAE. #SpaceDiplomacy #IAC2024 Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Federal Aviation Administration

Today at IAC2024 in Milan, the Office of Space Commerce and Australian Space Agency signed a joint statement of intent to cooperate on matters related to space situational awareness (SSA). The two agencies will explore ways to collaborate on the use of traditional and non-traditional data sources to improve space object re-entry monitoring and prediction. Yesterday's Atlantic Council GeoTech Center event on SSA during IAC2024 demonstrated the importance of bringing global and commercial voices together going forward. #IAC2024

This morning in Milan, the GeoTech Center convened representatives from national space agencies, commercial industry, and civil society in an enriching session to share global perspectives on, and collectively address the need for, space situational awareness (SSA) coordination. The program began with remarks from Aarti Holla-Maini, Dr. Tidiane Ouattara, Anil Kumar of ISRO - Indian Space Research Organization, Pascal Faucher, and Richard DalBello about their respective organization's approach to SSA management. Then S. Sita Sonty, moderator and Nonresident Senior Fellow, led a lively discussion covering the minimum standards for transparency, how orbital events are defined, the role commercial providers, and the next steps for codification of these principles. Thank you to the Office of Space Commerce for their support planning and executing the session! Through the week, the GeoTech Center space team (Raul Brens Jr, PhD and Ellie Creasey) will be attending the 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC2024) to engage with stakeholders, learn about emerging applications of space technology, identify opportunities for collaborative programming.

The whirlwind continues at IAC2024! The Office of Space Commerce, Federal Aviation Administration, and Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs met with counterparts from Poland, Egypt, Brazil, and Japan to discuss space market access and data sharing, and to build on previous dialogues. #SpaceDiplomacy #IAC2024
