A significant rise in Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) cases among young people has been observed, with Dr. Rockey Katheria, an Interventional Cardiologist at Manipal Hospital Varthur, shedding light on this concerning trend. In India, approximately 5-6 lakh deaths occur annually due to SCA, predominantly affecting individuals over 50. Dr. Katheria emphasizes that SCA, where the heart abruptly stops functioning, can be fatal without prompt CPR or defibrillation. Key causes include cardiomyopathy, coronary abnormalities, and myocarditis. Preventive measures are crucial and involve regular heart screenings, especially for those with a family history, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, avoiding smoking, and being vigilant about symptoms such as chest pain and fainting during physical activity. #ManipalHospitalVarthurRoad #YourManipal #LifesOn #HeartHealth #SuddenCardiacArrest #Cardiology #Healthcare

Many countries in Asia are rapidly ageing, with many more people living beyond 85 years of age. Yet the elderly population is often excluded from clinical studies. Ageist practice and attitudes of "doing as little as possible" for elderly patients remain widespread. Don't elderly patients benefit from medical advances? Conduction system pacing (CSP) improves heart function and survival for any patient receiving a pacemaker, at no additional cost! In this study, we looked at the clinical benefits of CSP, compared to traditional pacing, in younger patients and those above 85 years of age. Younger patients were 37% less likely to die or develop heart failure if they received CSP. Those above 85 years old were 60% less likely to die or develop heart failure if they received CSP! Don't deny elderly patients physiological pacing. Living longer lives free from heart failure is meaningful regardless how old you are. #ahvc #nuhcs #rv_pacing_is_evil https://lnkd.in/g_gyjHkw

🚨Congenital heart defects affect 1 newborn every 15 minutes. This equals to about 40,000 baby's or 1 in 115 births in which the baby is born with (congenital) a heart defect. Some of the more common defects include: ❤️Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) which can close on their own ❤️Atrial or venous septal defects (ASD/VSD/AVSD) where there is a hole in the septum which separates the right from the left side of the heart at the atrium (top,) venous (bottom,) or both. More severe heart defects require surgery within days of birth or within the first year of life. Often requiring multiple procedures to ensure adequate oxygenation and perfusion to the body. 👶All neonates receive a CCHD test - Critical Congenital Heart Disease - at 24 hours old or as close to discharge as possible. This is a non-invasive test that is done by placing a pulse oximeter ("red space light") on the right hand (Important!) and either foot. One should be >95% and the numbers should be 3% or less apart in order to be negative. Retesting can occur in one hour if initially positive. This is a tool and does not necessarily catch all heart defects, however it has significantly reduced those that are life threatening and missed. It allows for cardiology specialists to be consulted and the baby to be thoroughly evaluated. CCHD screening targets 7 defects: Hypoplastic left heart, Pulmonary atresia (with intact septum), Tetralogy of Fallot, Total anomalous pulmonary venous return, Transposition of the great arteries, Tricuspid atresia, and Truncus arteriosus. Anyone else work in a facility that takes care of these little heart warriors? I do! We are a regional center for CHD in Washington. Do you know someone who was born with a congenital heart defect? #CHD #PICUNurse #GenesisLegalNurse #LegalNurseConsulting #Attorney #Lawyer

Atrial flutter is a type of heart rhythm disorder (arrhythmia) caused by problems in the heart's electrical system. In atrial flutter, the heart's upper chambers (atria) beat too quickly. This causes the heart to beat in a fast, but usually regular, rhythm. Atrial flutter is similar to atrial fibrillation, a common disorder that causes the heart to beat in irregular patterns. People with atrial flutter have a heart rhythm that's more organized and less chaotic than that of atrial fibrillation. Sometimes a person may have episodes of both atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation. People with atrial flutter may not have symptoms. However, the disorder can increase the risk of stroke, heart failure and other complications. There are effective treatments for atrial flutter, including medication or procedures designed to scar small areas of heart tissue (ablation). courtesy : Mayo clinic #biomedicalengineering #bioengineering #knowledgesharing #educateyourself #medicaleducation #nursesonlinkedin #nurses #doctors #uaehealthcare #medicalstudent #medicalstudents #medicalprofessionals #medicalprofessional #cardiology

【Evaluating the Efficacy of Cervical Tactile Ultrasound Technique as a Predictive Tool for Spontaneous Preterm Birth】 Full article: https://lnkd.in/gZUtDZie (Authored by Vladimir Egorov, et al., from Advanced Tactile Imaging, Inc. (USA), etc.) #Spontaneous_preterm_birth (sPTB) not only results in immediate consequences such as neonatal mortality and morbidity but also has long-term implications including cognitive, behavioral, and neurological deficits in the surviving infants. Consequently, early and accurate prediction of sPTB is of paramount importance to improve neonatal outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. This study evaluates the efficacy of an innovative cervical tactile ultrasound approach in predicting sPTB at 24 - 28 weeks of gestation in women with singleton pregnancies. #Cervical_Elasticity

➡️The Hospitals and health professionals (Doctors, nurses ) , where you seek health care can mar or make you. ➡️Few months ago, a 45 year old woman with history of resolving heavy menstrual bleeding (cause is fibroid), presented to the clinic, after seeing her, i requested she did an abdominopelvic ultrasound scan. ➡️ It happened where she was directed to do the scan, they also suggested she did a tranvaginal scan because the radiographer suspected to have seen a pelvic mass, which he acclaimed is likely a cancer and immediately listed she will do all sorts of tests to know if actually is a cancer, which amounted to 150k. ➡️After talking with them on the phone about the developments,on a latter thought, i told them to come see the Consultant Gynaecologist and hold on with the suggested investigations. ➡️After a few days, a second opinion Scan was requested which is the standard thing that is done, to compare and make a final decision, usually done by a consultant radiologist, surprisingly it came out normal. ➡️However before doing the second scan, the woman have been so been down, not sleeping well, because she thought already that she has cancer and is all over for her. ➡️ There are some hospitals, that will ignorantly tell this woman in question to do all those investigations, conclude that she has cancer and even bill her crazily for cancer surgery and leave her in a depression state. ➡️These scenarios looks like fairytales by moonlight, till you are in that situation or someone close to you, God forbid though and then mismanaged, you will then know that information and knowledge is power. 📢In conclusion, always go to standard hospitals for your health complaints and seek health care from an experienced doctor, with conscience. Good health is wealth. Please share this write up to enlighten other people. #kingsleykanu #drkingsmedicalconsult #drkingsdigitalhub #goodhealth #medicalhealthcare #healthwellness

Emerging evidence suggests that the brain can show signs of electrical recovery for up to an hour into ongoing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This is a crucial period between cardiac arrest and awakening, during which the dying patient can experience vivid moments before returning to life. This phenomenon is known as "recalled death." Contrary to popular belief, if someone has been in cardiac arrest for 10 minutes, the brain may not be permanently damaged. To learn more about recalled death and its implications for better care, check out the article below. #healthcare #CPR #recalleddeath

Did you know that 1 in 100 children might receive an abnormal ECG result? Here's what that could indicate about their heart health. First, let’s simplify it: 👉 An ECG (electrocardiogram) is a test that measures the electrical activity of the heart. 👉 It’s a non-invasive way to check how your child’s heart is functioning. What might abnormal results indicate? 🤔 1/ Arrhythmia → This means the heart beats too fast, too slow, or irregularly. → Some arrhythmias are harmless, while others may require further evaluation. 2/ Structural Issues → Abnormalities may point to structural problems in the heart, such as congenital heart defects. 3/ Myocardial Issues → An abnormal ECG could suggest issues with the heart muscle, affecting how it pumps blood. If your child’s ECG comes back abnormal, don’t panic. It doesn’t always mean there’s a serious problem. But it’s important to follow up with a pediatric cardiologist to get a clearer understanding. Early diagnosis can help manage any underlying conditions before they become serious. Want to learn more about your child’s ECG results? The NHS is facing a "ticking time bomb" with heart failure cases expected to nearly double by 2040, according to the British Society for Heart Failure (BSH). Currently, an estimated 400,000 people in the UK have undiagnosed heart failure, necessitating an urgent national initiative for early detection. Heart failure, a long-term condition where the heart struggles to pump blood, can lead to severe health issues if not diagnosed and treated early. Treatments include medication, pacemakers, and surgeries to improve heart function. Approximately 80% of patients are diagnosed after emergency hospital admissions, with significant mortality rates. The BSH emphasizes the need for a sustainable program to identify at-risk individuals early, potentially saving many lives. Efforts are underway, including a pilot project analyzing GP data to find undiagnosed cases. The BSH's 25in25 initiative aims to reduce heart failure deaths by 25% in the next 25 years. #HeartHealth #NHS #HeartFailure #HealthCrisis #EarlyDiagnosis #MedicalAwareness #Cardiology #PreventiveCare #HealthcareUK #BSH https://lnkd.in/eY3DZiRm
