Hexagon Purus Maritime is part of the Hexagon Purus subsidiary, a company who develops complete hydrogen fuel systems for on board vessels and they have recently opened new offices in Ålesund, Norway. This has occurred in order to meet the increasing demand for hydrogen storage solutions. Their current project is focused on manufacturing and producing fuel systems which are suitable for SKULEBAS, the training vessel, for Hvide Sande Shipyard and also for the ‘world’s first’ hydrogen-powered fishing workboat, which is used by Moen Marin. The article below discusses how Hexagon Purus Maritime is responding to the rise in demand for hydrogen fuel and hydrogen storage. Recently it has become increasingly clear that the hydrogen industry is in need of more hydrogen storage and this issue is what this project is focused on fixing. 🚢🌱 The world's largest hydrogen ships will be built in Norway. #Norway #hydrogen #vessels #maritime #innovation 🔍 Norway at the forefront of maritime innovation with this new project. Norway is at the forefront of maritime sustainability with the announcement of the construction of the world's two largest hydrogen ferries. 🛳️ This project, realised by Torghatten Nord in collaboration with the Norwegian shipyard Myklebust Verft, not only symbolises a technological breakthrough, but also reinforces the commitment to environmental protection and local economic development. 📍 Built at Myklebust Verft, located in Gursken, these ferries will be 117 metres long and will be able to carry up to 120 cars each. Their route will connect Bodø to Lofoten, the longest in Norway, setting a new precedent in the industry in terms of capacity and size. 🌊 At the heart of this innovation lies the use of green hydrogen as the main energy source, covering 85% of the Arctic journey. This hydrogen will be produced locally in Bodø, ensuring a fully green and sustainable energy cycle. 👨💼 Marius Hansen, CEO of Torghatten Nord, highlights this project as a key building block for the future of ship technology in Norway and as an emerging global standard in sustainable shipbuilding. 🔗 Source: https://bit.ly/4d84xKz .

📣 📣 📣 POSEIDON’s second consortium meeting in Valencia! 🚢 ♻ Isotta Fraschini Motori, along with 18 partners, has launched an ambitious European project (POSEIDON) aimed at eliminating fossil fuels and decarbonising European maritime transport. The POSEIDON project officially started on September 1, 2023 and will run for 4 years, paving the way for the production and use of synthetic methanol (e-methanol) as a fuel in maritime transport. Spotlight on this project, a driving force behind the elimination of fossil fuels and the decarbonization of European shipping.
📣 📣 📣 POSEIDON’s second consortium meeting in Valencia! 🌴 The members of the EU project POSEIDON gathered in Valencia on March 5 and 6, 2024 for the project’s second Consortium meeting. The two-days event took place at Golab, the Global Omnium Technology Center and operational base for water services. The first day was dedicated to a progress report on the main technical activities of the project, and concluded with a visit to the Valence wastewater treatment plant, which highlighted the plant's circularity thanks to the use of locally produced biogas. The second day featured a meeting of the Advisory Board members who provided valuable feedback and the official kick-off meeting of the Community of Practice of Valencia. Project partners had the pleasure to encounter several local stakeholders who will support the future implementation of value chain based on e-methanol based on POSEIDON’ research outputs. The project team would like to express its gratitude to partner Global Omnium for hosting and organizing this event. It was a great meeting and we will soon share more news on the project progress.
