Last month, I visited Tangerine Films Malaysia. Ever wondered how top productions come to life? They’re a leading agency working with top brands. I got a behind-the-scenes look at their operations. Who are the people making it all happen? I met the interns and the talented crew. I even had a chat with the CEO. What drives their success in digital marketing? It’s their blend of creativity and strategy. How crucial is digital marketing in today’s world? It’s essential for reaching and engaging audiences.

Here's my 2024 #LinkedInRewind, by Coauthor.studio: When I transitioned from Cinépolis Gulf to leading Cinépolis Cinemas Indonesia in 2024, I discovered that true leadership is less about geographical boundaries and more about embracing local cultures, understanding unique market dynamics, and empowering teams to transform challenges into opportunities. This year was a masterclass in cultural adaptation and strategic reinvention. Beyond a simple leadership transition, it was about bridging worlds - from the Gulf's evolving cinema landscape to Indonesia's vibrant, rapidly growing market. Key milestones that defined our journey: • Successfully led #CinépolisCinemas Indonesia's strategic positioning, focusing on local market nuances • Initiated our landmark Halal certification for F&B offerings, demonstrating deep respect for local standards • Refurbished our Park Pejaten Mall location, elevating the cinema experience • Launched a reimagined F&B menu that resonates with local tastes and preferences • Organized the innovative MIKTA Short Film Festival, strengthening community cultural connections • Implemented the School of Managers Indonesia, investing critically in our team's professional development Three posts that captured the essence of this transformative year: 1. Reflecting on My Gulf Journey "Working in this part of the world helped me experience a diverse and multicultural workspace, and it helped me become a better person and leader." https://lnkd.in/dMR8ANVD 2. Insights from Saudi Arabia "From what I've observed, hospitality comes naturally to many Saudis; they make sincere efforts to ensure guests feel welcomed." https://lnkd.in/df5wTGEx 3. Launching Halal Certification "This initiative is a significant step toward ensuring that our F&B offerings meet the highest quality standards and comply with local regulations." https://lnkd.in/dimivVxe Looking ahead to 2025, our vision is clear: continue transforming cinema experiences by deeply understanding local contexts, nurturing talent, and creating spaces that go beyond entertainment to become genuine cultural platforms. To our incredible #CinépolisIndonesia team: your passion, adaptability, and commitment make every milestone possible. Together, we're not just showing movies - we're creating unforgettable experiences that connect communities. #LinkedInRewind #2024Wrapped

Every pitch is a growth opportunity for both the brand and the agency. For Vanitha Selva, Head of Carat Malaysia, transparency, professionalism, constructive feedback, and empathy will go a long way in ultimately meeting the evolving needs of brands. "I believe every party in the pitch process can improve the process better. The best feedback are from clients who take the time to explain their decision and adhere to a structured pitch process. They point out strengths, potential, and weaknesses, offering actionable insights in fine-tuning specific areas... [But] whether it is a win or a loss, it is part of the journey. Success is not just about winning; it is about challenging, learning and growing ourselves." *Appreciation Post* As I reflect on my experiences so far personally and in my career, there are people who have consistently been instrumental in my growth. And with their consent, I’d like to share some pivotal moments that I’m forever gratitude for. (Nothing like an appreciation post to kick off your week on a high.) ~~~~~~~ My first appreciation is for Brenda Han, my manager at Ogilvy, who took me on to lead some challenging work. A few months into my Ogilvy gig, 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, looking back it’s clear that imposter syndrome got the better of me (I’d had a tough first year in Singapore with my jobs - a story for another time). 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿. I’ll never forget the moment Brenda took me aside and had “a chat”. While the message was very serious, it came with support and reassurance that 𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 - and yes, the truth hurt… and then something inside me shifted. I started to focus on what I do well - 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵** 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘣𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘥. I grew key accounts and teams, pushed creative boundaries, we won Effie’s awards, and won multiple integrated creative pitches. 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴. It truly was this moment that’s famously quoted: “But what if I fall?”… “Yes my dear, but what if you fly” Thank you Brenda for giving me the candid feedback I needed to 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳 and for always being a constant, inspirational mentor and friend. Lesson Learned: Candid, constructive feedback is gold - whether giving or receiving - know you could be changing a career path for the better when given/received with kindness. #mentor #impostersyndrome #fightorflight #appreicationpost #fallandfly

Cannes Lions 🦁 For those of us in the advertising world, Cannes Lions holds a special place—it's more than a festival, it's a symbol of creativity and excellence. Starting out in a small agency, I remember watching the best case selections from each festival, dreaming of creating something worthy of Cannes one day. However, the bittersweet reality is that many of these incredible commercials often end up forgotten in archives. Such is the fleeting nature of this art form—it shines brightly for a moment and then fades away. Here's a throwback to one of my favorite ads, the 2008 winning commercial. The Malaysian state oil company Petronas (the very same company that owns the famous twin towers in Kuala Lumpur) launched a social awareness campaign in 2008 through its foundation against racism for Malaysia’s National Day. The commercial "Tan Hong Ming in Love" was created by the Leo Burnett Kuala Lumpur agency and led by the late creative director Yasmin Ahmad. Yasmin came up with the idea for the spot and directed it herself, discovering a real childhood love story at a real school in Kuala Lumpur. The commercial, about a Malaysian boy's love for a Chinese girl, touches viewers with its sincerity and kindness—it’s very moving and even heartwarming, despite the fact that the issue of racism in Malaysia is not something we fully understand. I think it's a wonderful piece of work. What about you? What's your all-time favorite ad?
