Thank you to Alisa McLellan and Abigail Mast for bringing together Women in eDiscovery - Chicago Chapter and the Chicago Chapter of Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists (ACEDS) for a comprehensive presentation by Sara Davey on Bystander Training. For those who couldn't attend and are wondering how to support or intervene when witnessing harassment, think about: Delegate: Talk to a manager, bartender, or even call 911 if necessary Distract: Find a way to break up the moment or conversation. Direct: Directly intervene if safe to do so. Delayed: If you can't take action in the moment, check in later with the person and offer resources. Document: Write down what happened (or record if safe). Thank you to DISCO for sponsoring, and Perkins Coie LLP for hosting. “The only color I care about is green.” That’s the response you’ll often get when you talk about diversity and inclusion efforts with many powerful BigLaw partners, reported Rosa Nunez, Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer with Foley Hoag LLP during the recent enlightening Diversity in Law webinar presented by NALSC: the National Association of Legal Search Consultants Silver Sponsor Leopard Solutions. Among the many topics covered, panelists Laura Leopard, Founder and General Manager, Leopard Solutions; Rosa J. Nuñez, Chief DEI Officer, Foley Hoag LLP; Caren Ulrich Stacy, CEO, Diversity Lab; and Reggie McGahee, Global Head of Diversity Recruiting, Reed Smith LLP discussed the current state of DEI in the legal profession and the importance of fair and measurable work allocation systems for associates and, for partners, getting the credit you deserve. For more important information and insights on this topic, watch for the upcoming whitepaper with results of Leopard Solutions’ diversity survey of more than 600 gender and ethnically diverse attorneys. #nalsc #lawjobs #legaljobs #diversityinlaw #legalrecruiting Caring about colors other than green can increase the green in your firm's future. Another great story of the power of purpose + perseverance! Let’s get more women into construction, architecture and engineering!!
Deryl McKissack’s career is a culmination of effort from five generations. The 62-year-old is the president and CEO of McKissack & McKissack, the Washington, D.C.-based construction management and design firm behind some of today’s most recognizable buildings — from building the Smithsonian African American Museum of History and Culture to repairing the Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson memorials. McKissack withdrew $1,000 from her savings account and launched her company in 1990. Today, it brings in between $25 million and $30 million per year. The firm’s legacy dates back to her great-great grandfather Moses, a skilled brick maker who originally came to the U.S. as a slave in 1790. Here's how McKissack grew her company. 👇️
62-year-old started her business with $1,000—now it brings in over $25 million a year: 'I just had to do this'
