Over the years, when I’ve given thought to workplace culture, organizational culture, and the like I’ve never explored any deeper definition to “culture” than those you could find in a 1970s career success manual… So, I’m thoroughly chuffed to read (and re-read) this new piece by April Brittain, PMP, RBLP-T, TS/SCI and Chang Suh which unpacks the genealogy of the term and how it can be fully applied to the United States Space Force. Bottom line? How can we, as Guardians, engender a professional community where “a decrease in risk adversity, an increase in mission command, and deeper human connection” can propel us to be a better force. When did you last try a pre-mortem? No risk and has huge benefits if done before launching a significant project. It involves imagining the project being a disaster & working backward to identify causal assumptions & gaps which then can be addressed. It is less psychologically less threatening to those who back the project, helps avoid confirmation bias & group-think.
