BHEL and Greenstat Hydrogen India Sign Memorandum of Understanding Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Greenstat Hydrogen India Pvt. Ltd. have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on developing green hydrogen projects in India. The MoU was signed by S Prabhakar, GM & Head (Coal to Chemicals) of BHEL and Sturle Harald Pedersen, Chairman of Greenstst Hydrogen India Pvt. Ltd. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Upinder Singh Matharu, Director (Power) of BHEL, Jai Prakash Srivastava, Director (ER&D) and Director (Finance) – Additional Charge of BHEL, Jeewan Prakash Gupta, MD of Greenstat Hydrogen India Pvt. Ltd., and other senior officials of BHEL. The collaboration between BHEL and Greenstat Hydrogen India aims to focus on establishing a framework for cooperation between the two organizations to explore and develop projects related to the production, marketing, and use of green hydrogen. This partnership will leverage BHEL’s expertise in manufacturing and renewable energy, with Greenstat’s experience in hydrogen technology and solutions. Green hydrogen is considered a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels as it is produced by using renewable sources of energy rather than fossil fuels. It can be used in various sectors such as transportation, industry, and power generation, leading to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and a more sustainable future. By signing this MoU, BHEL and Greenstat Hydrogen India demonstrate their commitment to promoting the development and adoption of green hydrogen in India. The collaboration aims to accelerate India's transition to sustainable energy. India's National Green Hydrogen Mission targets 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen capacity by 2030, with investments totaling $2.4bn. Alvarez & Marshall's report suggests India could gain $3-5bn from green hydrogen exports and save $7-15bn on imports over a decade. To achieve its goals, India may need to increase its investment to $4-12bn by 2030. Initiatives to create initial domestic demand and reduce costs are recommended.
