London-listed major Shell is understood to have recently failed to discover commercial volumes of hydrocarbon at its fifth exploration well targeting the Cullinan prospect within PEL 39. Cullinan-1X was spud in early July utilizing Odfjell Drilling’s semi-submersible Deepsea Bollsta, about 60 kilometers north of Shell's Lesedi discovery well and close to the Galp-operated Block 2813A.  The well targeting the large prospect was considered a high-risk well, targeting a different geological play compared to the earlier wells. A working petroleum system could be present, but this also puts the prospects in the Galp-operated blocks at risk where the operator has plans to drill two exploration wells. Shell would now look to appraise the earlier discoveries and also has approval for a further 10 exploration wells by the Namibian government. Apart from this French major TotalEnergies as well is slowly and steadily building towards proving the reservoir deliverability of its basin opening find and proving an anticipated multi-billion barrel hydrocarbon discovery. It is also drilling its Nara prospect within Block 2912, which is one of the largest mapped prospects in Namibia. BREAKING: Monitor Exploration strikes N$347m deal to drill onshore Namibia Monitor Exploration, a privately owned UK-based junior, has struck an N$347 million (US$18.7 million) deal to farm-out a key stake in prospective exploration acreage onshore Namibia where a debut wildcat could be drilled in 2025. Exploration update! The Transocean Barents semisubmersible drilling rig has left Lebanon following the completion of the TotalEnergies-operated Qana-1 exploration well. There has been no official result announced at Qana-1 but sources suggest the well confirmed the presence of very good quality sand reservoirs at multiple layers, including some known with commercial discoveries in the Levantine basin. The gas shows ranged between traces and recordable quantities. The rig is on its way to Block 6, offshore Cyprus to drill the Eni-operated Cronos-2 appraisal well. If successful, Cronos could be developed via a tie-back to Eni’s Zohr facilities, offshore Egypt and then the gas could be sold to the Egyptian domestic gas market. Block 6 has three discoveries, including Calypso (discovered in 2018) Cronos (2022), and Zeus (2022). 

✔  Dragon Oil is set to embark on the testing phase of the Block 19 oil and gas well in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, with plans to produce 20,000 barrels of Turkmen oil daily, as announced by the company's CEO, Ali Rashid Al-Jarwan. The statement was made during a meeting with the leadership of the Türkmennebit (Turkmen Oil) State Concern in Ashgabat. Al-Jarwan outlined the initial phase of exploration, involving the study of hydrocarbons in the oil and gas well located in Block 19, spanning a total area of 3,800 square kilometers. Oil discovery of Namcor, partners likely at 10b barrels: The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) and its partners, Galp Energia and Custos Energy, say preliminary estimates suggest hydrocarbon figures of 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent or higher within the Mopane complex alone before further exploration and appraisal wells are drilled. Namcor’s stake in the endeavour is at 10%, with Galp Energia at 80% and Custos Energy also at 10%. This comes after the companies yesterday announced the successful completion of the first phase of the Mopane exploration campaign, marking a significant milestone in Namibia’s oil and gas sector. The Mopane-1X well testing operations revealed substantial oil columns containing light oil in high-quality reservoir sands at two different levels – AVO-1 and AVO-2. In a statement yesterday, Namcor says this initial success was followed by further promising findings at the Mopane-2X well location in March, where significant light oil columns were uncovered across exploration and appraisal targets, including AVO-3, AVO-1, and a deeper target. “Particularly noteworthy is the confirmation of AVO-1’s lateral extension, reinforcing its potential commercial significance. The reservoirs’ log measures showcase favourable porosities, high pressures, and high permeabilities in extensive hydrocarbon columns. “Fluid samples reveal very low oil viscosity and minimal concentrations of CO2 and no H2S, highlighting the quality of the resource. During the well test, flows reached the maximum allowed limits of approximately 14 000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, positioning Mopane as a potentially significant commercial discovery,” the statement reads. All data acquired during the current Mopane drilling campaign will undergo comprehensive analysis and integration into an updated reservoir model. This model will inform Galp’s near-term drilling plan, facilitating continued exploration, appraisal and development of the broader Mopane complex. TotalEnergies makes fresh oil discovery in Namibia’s ‘golden’ block. TotalEnergies has made another oil discovery offshore Namibia, although it is too early to say if the find is commercial. The ultra-deepwater exploration probe, said well-watchers, was also drilled deeper to intercept a northern extension of the supermajor’s huge Venus discovery. TotalEnergies Mangetti-1X probe is being drilled in Block 2913B by the drillship Tungsten Explorer and was targeting a prospect located at a shallower geological depth than Venus. 88 Energy to Launch 200-Line-Kilometer Seismic Survey in Namibia’s Owambo Basin 88 Energy Ltd plans to initiate a 200-line-kilometer 2D seismic survey in Namibia’s Owambo Basin mid-year. This new survey aims to refine prospective closures within its expansive 18,500-square-kilometer claim under Petroleum Exploration Licence 93 (PEL 93), which borders Angola, a prominent oil-producing nation. The initiative is supported by existing 2D seismic data and soil gas sampling, which validate the presence of hydrocarbon-producing source rocks.
