Offshore Mooring System - SPM Offshore mooring systems are generally classified to SPM (Single Point Mooring) or MSM (Multi Spread Mooring). The main purpose of using them is to transfer hydrocarbons between onshore or offshore hosts and the moored tanker. SPMs are considered more economical than MSM, but they require a large anchorage area to avoid interference with other assets and vessels. Regarding SPM, it's connected to vessel to let her to weathervane into the dominant weather conditions that she will be able to align herself with wind, waves and current. SPM is basically utilised in areas where a dedicated hosts for loading and unloading hydrocarbons isn't available. It locates away from onshore and is being connected by subsea pipelines. Buoy body of SPM is floated over sea surface has a rotating part which connects to vessel, while this part allows vessel to be stable at its location around the buoy. Vessel is moored to the buoy by a thick rope shacked to an integrated hook on the buoy deck.

Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement AIR Published 10 Dec. Cantium & Enterprise Offshore Drilling. Drilling 101...Fail. Travelling block struck the crown saver assembly. Human Performance Error – DR1 and FH1 were not paying attention to the task of POOH with drill pipe to check the COM and rack back the stand. Management system – Inadequate hazard analysis of the traveling block contacting the crown block. Equipment failure - The barrel of the COM was not set properly. This allowed the drill line to move past the COM resulting in the the traveling block striking the crown block. #iadc #iwcf #offshoreoilandgas #jackup #drillingcontractor

#A_subsurface_safety_valve (SSSV) is a downhole safety device installed in a well that can be closed in emergencies. An emergency may arise on or around a well from equipment failure, human error, collision with an offshore facility by a third-party vessel, fire, leaks, or sabotage. The main reason for using a downhole subsurface safety valve is to protect the site and off-site personnel, surface facilities (especially on offshore rig installations), the environment, and the reservoir. This reason has even more significant implications for wells drilled and completed in geologically or politically unstable areas and potential war zones. It also provides general protection against any ‘what if’ scenari A secondary use of an SSSV is that it may be considered a barrier in well plugging to allow conducting remedial well operations to the Christmas tree or removing the tree for rig operations (Types of drilling rigs), provided it has been satisfactorily leak tested.

Thoughts are with the families of the nine workers injured yesterday in the blaze that struck Pemex platform, located in the southern Gulf of Mexico, where most of Pemex oil output originates (Campeche, MX). Five of the nine were Pemex employees while the rest were contractors from local service providers.
