Military Spouse Landmark Lawsuit - Occupational Licensing News Article Title ➡️ “A victory for all military spouses’ in court fight over job license” By Karen Jowers, Monday, Nov 20th, 2023 News Article Main Points ➡️ ➡️ This federal court ruling sets a national legal precedent that will help countless military families struggling with occupational license portability issues. 👏 ➡️ Hannah Portée sued the Texas Education Agency for refusing to accept her school counseling licenses from Ohio & Missouri after a move to Laughlin Air Force Base on orders. 📜 ➡️ The judge determined this violated license portability provisions in the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), a law providing protections for military members. ⚖️ ➡️ By clearly defining SCRA license terminology like "actively used," this precedent will assist military spouses nationwide in qualifying for license reciprocity during PCS moves. 📋 ➡️ The Department of Justice supported Portée’s complaint, bringing further attention to barriers facing military families attempting to continue their careers across state lines. 🗣 ➡️ While too late to allow Portée a full-time position this school year, the ruling stops Texas from enforcing restrictive license requirements against her in the future. 🚫 ➡️ The judge ordered Texas to pay Portée’s court costs and attorney fees, sending a strong warning to other states restricting license portability. 💰 ➡️ Overall, this sets a positive precedent for military spouse career progression and reducing unemployment among this population. 📈 Link to Full News Article ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gKCV4gFm #militaryspouse #licensereciprocity #veteran #education #teaching #counseling #SCRA #PCS #militaryfamily #armedforces #dod #troops #texas #employment #unemployment #socialimpact #legalnews #publicpolicy #laborlaws #occupationallicensing #continuingeducation #professionaldevelopment #careeradvice #militarylife #militaryorders #militarymissions #civilreliefact #justicedepartment #legalfees #substituteteacher #schoolcounselor #retirementbenefits #credentialing

Why an independent regulatory college? Because CVRP sets and enforces standards for practice and conduct to make sure you’re always getting the best from your vocational rehabilitation experience. CVRP’s standards and guidelines set the bar for competence and accountability.
