As many know (and have even seen live in action… I’m looking at you Ellie Schroeder), I’m always selling, and ALWAYS recruiting. I’ve also always believed that great sales talent can come from anywhere! Take myself for example… from commercial driving to sales! As Ellie may remember, I’ve even recruited from a retail store we went to. (One of the first times we hung out in person, actually 🥲) Well, it happened again today - I was in an Ulta, I came in for some foundation before my vacation, and a woman came over to help me. Over our conversation, while building rapport, she’s upselling me on other products, asking me what else I may need. GREAT salesmanship. She even managed to get me to buy some mascara from Estée Lauder! I told her she was doing a great job, and that I was a salesperson too! (Like recognizes like 😉) - told her she should come work where I work! Turns out she’s spent much of her career in international business (Did I just find our next all-star international Account Executive?? We’ve got an amazing team here) We exchanged info, but regardless of what happens, the fact remains: GREAT SALES TALENT CAN COME FROM ANYWHERE! Get to know Ayaka Otsuka, our Strategic Solutions Senior Coordinator! ⚡️ Q: Did you always have a desire to work in sports?   A: Yes, I did! I played multiple sports growing up. Sports have always been the center of my life. I also wanted to expand my perspectives, so I decided to move to the U.S. and work in sports in this country. Q: How’d you get your start?   A: My career started with the LA Sparks when I was in college, where I was able to learn about corporate partnerships, from sales to activations. After graduation, I started working at the Chargers as a seasonal assistant for the Corporate Partnerships department. Q: What is the most rewarding part of your job and why?   A: Not an exact part of my job but I enjoy the whole process of creating partnership solutions with internal and external teams. I can feel a little achievement and growth every time I get a project completed with coworkers. Q: What advice do you have for those trying to get into sports/starting their career in the sports industry?   A: Be bold to go with your gut! Once you find out what you would like to pursue, enjoy every step and experience to get to your goal. There are always people who support you along the way. Q: How has your heritage shaped the person you are today?   A: Born and raised in Japan, I was taught that being humble is an important aspect as a human being. You should appreciate the people that surround you and be respectful and considerate towards others. This value helps me keep growing. Q: As we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, what are some aspects of your culture that you enjoy sharing with others?   A: Japanese food and anime culture.
