In response, Biden's official account posted a video compilation aimed at creating a rift between former President Trump and J.D. Vance, Trump's vice-presidential pick for the Republican ticket. At 9:15 PM Eastern Time, Biden's account on X shared the video titled "Looking up J.D. Vance for the first time? Here’s what you need to know." As Biden's popularity wanes and his health deteriorates, his team's desperate propaganda efforts highlight the slim chances of his party's victory due to his insistence on staying in the race. Reading the book ‘The Chimp Paradox’ by psychologist Steve Peters…gives an insight into why Trump behaves the way he does. Basically, our ‘chimp’ is a metaphor for how our ‘base ego compulsions’ override/overpower our ‘logic’ and even ‘common sense’ when we feel under stress. Our reaction to a threat today is still to default to our primitive survival state of ‘fight, flight and freeze’ response in order to survive. As we evolved as humans, our ‘logical brain’ developed and we became increasingly adept at ‘putting our ego in harness’ (like taming a wild horse) in order to fit into society’s expectations. Also, as we get older, we typically get more ‘practiced’ and refined at dealing with the challenges that we face…essentially becoming better at managing our ‘chimp’ compulsions. We know that in any endeavour such as sports, a profession (doctor, accountant, scientist, carer, builder, teacher, etc.), or in social interactions - the more ‘disciplined, experienced and practiced’ we become at managing our ‘chimp’, the better we become at managing our emotions and thoughts…especially when under stress. Unfortunately, Trump grew up in a privileged materialistic ecosystem where he hasn’t needed to adapt, manage or discipline his compulsions. It’s obvious that he aspires to continue to be king of his castle in the political arena (like his hero Putin), and he’s behaving like a wannabe dictator because that’s his default state (from his private/business life). Therefore, it’s fairly easy to see that Trump is constantly in ‘chimp mode’ and is immune to any argument where he’s not the centre of attention and authority.

The news that Donald Trump was shot and injured at a campaign rally is the latest and greatest shock in a U.S. presidential campaign that has veered ever-further into uncharted territory against the backdrop of a febrile political environment and high-stakes US election. A bleeding, defiant Trump fist-pumped the air as Secret Service Agents rushed him off the stage, an image that is likely to define the campaign and solidify his image as an American folk hero and political martyr to his supporters, rallying his loyal base and enraging others. While Trump’s odds of winning have increased according to PredictIt and Real Clear Politics, we are not yet as convinced as some that his victory is a forgone conclusion. The US political risk temperature is too high and there are too many wild cards to assume linear trend lines.
