#Intuition to #InnSæi: When #Curiosity Brews a Sustainable Solution – My Beanless Coffee Encounter 🔍☕ As I wandered through the outdoor exhibits at the Bloomberg Live #GreenFestival, a unique booth caught my eye. Amidst the displays of solar panels and electric vehicles, Atomo Coffee stood out, promising a revolutionary #BeanlessBrew. Intrigued by this bold innovation, I couldn't resist investigating further. My "Why"—to imagine, innovate, and make a lasting impact—drew me toward Atomo Coffee's promise of a more sustainable coffee experience. It was as if my intuition had whispered, "Here lies a potential game-changer." 🌱 ☕ A Coffee Conversation Brewed with Innovation ☕ My curiosity led me to Dan Hyatt, Atomo Coffee's Director of Sales, radiating an infectious enthusiasm for their revolutionary brew. As we sipped our beanless lattes (and yes, they were delicious!), our conversation buzzed with the excitement of a shared mission: to shake up the coffee industry and make it a force for good. 💥 Atomo Coffee's dedication to tackling the environmental challenges of traditional coffee production – from deforestation to water scarcity – was truly inspiring. Their beanless brew isn't just a clever concept; it's a tangible testament to the power of innovation to create a more sustainable and equitable future for all coffee lovers. 🌎 🤔 Where Innovation Meets #InnSæi 🤔 As a fellow innovator, I was buzzing with possibilities. Atomo Coffee's bold approach resonated deeply with my own belief in challenging the status quo and embracing the unexpected. It's a reminder that sometimes, the most groundbreaking solutions are found when we dare to question the norm and step off the beaten path. The coffee industry, like many others, is ripe for innovation. Atomo Coffee's beanless brew is a shining example of what's possible when we listen to that whisper of #InnSæi, that gut feeling that something new and exciting is brewing on the horizon. It's a call to embrace our #curiosity, question our assumptions, and dare to imagine a world where our daily rituals can also be powerful tools for positive change. 🌱 🌱 The Power of Sustainable Choices 🌱 Atomo Coffee's story is a testament to the power of individual choice in creating a more sustainable future. Even seemingly small decisions, like choosing our coffee, can have a ripple effect on the planet. We can collectively contribute to a healthier and more resilient world by supporting companies that prioritize #sustainability and #innovation. As we continue our journey of #IntuitiontoInnSæi, I invite you to consider the power of your own choices. How can you embrace #curiosity, #innovation, and #sustainability in your daily life? ☕️ Happy International Coffee Day! 🌱 Today, October 1, we celebrate coffee—one of the world’s most consumed beverages. Behind every cup lies a complex value chain with many stakeholders, offering an opportunity to drive positive change. This year’s theme, “𝙀𝙢𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘼𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣,” highlights the power of working together to build a more sustainable coffee industry. Sustainability in coffee means: 🌱 Promoting environmentally friendly farming practices and long-term investments. 🌍 Supporting farmers by supporting fair wages, good working conditions and removing inequalities. 🤝 Encouraging collaboration across the entire value chain, from crop to cup. Together, we drive positive change in the coffee sector, making it more resilient, equitable, and environmentally sustainable. Let’s celebrate the efforts of everyone working to ensure that coffee has a sustainable future—from farmers and roasters to baristas and conscious consumers. #InternationalCoffeeDay #SustainableCoffee #CoffeeCommunity #Collaboration #CollectiveAction #SustainableCoffee #ICD2024

Introducing the Updated Brew a Better World 2030 Goals For almost 160 years, we’ve been passionate about making a positive impact on the world. In April 2021 we launched our renewed sustainability strategy to drive progress towards a net zero, fairer, and more balanced world. We are now three years into developing and executing our Brew a Better World (BaBW) 2030 strategy and we can be proud of the results that we have achieved so far. From reducing our absolute carbon emissions across the value chain to increasing the percentage of women in senior management roles and growing the number of markets where we have a zero-alcohol option available, sustainability is being embedded in how we operate. And we know we still have more to do. Reflecting on our learnings, we’ve refined our approach and updated our BaBW goals to better address the progress. Here’s a quick overview of what’s changed: • Added new goals on carbon and circularity. • Amended goals with a 2023 due date or where emphasis has changed. • Removed goals that were substantially reached, no longer required the same focus, or had open-ended statements. • Repositioned goals under different pillars for better coherence. This update sharpens our focus to drive better impact for the environment, society and our business. We'll continue to raise the bar on environmental and social sustainability, and to champion responsible consumption. For more information please check out our BaBW strategy booklet on the website: https://lnkd.in/ef3QAjzg Together, we can #BrewABetterWorld

The upcycling supply chain process involves transforming waste materials or unwanted products into new, high-quality items ♻ But the heart of upcycling is more than just the materials—it's the relationships with our suppliers 🤝 Our partnerships with suppliers are built on trust, collaboration, and shared goals. Together, we: 👨🌾 Source responsibly: We work with suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability. 👨🍳 Innovate continuously: By collaborating, we discover new ways to repurpose materials and reduce waste. 👩👩👧👧 Strengthen communities: Supporting local suppliers helps bolster regional economies and promote eco-friendly practices. Additionally, as we celebrate Asian Heritage Month, I want to recognise the incredible contributions of Korean women throughout history, whose leadership and creativity brought us insights into fermentation and kimchi that are now being implemented in The Ferm’s methods 🇰🇷 To dive deeper into the importance of upcycling and fermentation, listen to Monocle’s The Menu podcast: https://lnkd.in/e_5aJHEn #Upcycling #SupplyChain #AsianHeritageMonth #KoreanHistory #CircularEconomy #SupplierRelationships #GreenInnovation Ottolenghi Group Noam Bar Fooditude Matt Byne Wylde Market Nick Jefferson OXO Tower Restaurant, Bar and Brasserie Andrea Zick (She/Her) Red Star Growers Ltd Jon Newell Angry Monk Michael Haskamp (何敏行)

Today, Iris Radl and I attended a panel on Specialty Coffee and Sustainability at Otherlab with Equator Coffees, Counter Culture Coffee and Sāe Coffee Studio. Key take-aways include: 🚛 coffee supply chains are super complex 🌳 there is so much potential for a bright future of coffee but also huge threats if we don’t do it right 🏷 certifications are onerous and can leave smallholders behind ☕ consumers have the power to demand more of roasters to ensure sustainable sourcing To me, it's clear that quality does not equate sustainability. And sustainability does not equate quality. We should demand high quality AND sustainable coffee. For that, we need to be ready to ask the hard questions and have difficult conversations and ultimately, pay producers more for their coffee. Thank you SF Climate Week for getting us started 👏👏👏 Lastly, I really loved what Katie Carguilo said: “Sustainability is not a fixed goal, it’s a promise to always do better for the future”. What does sustainability mean to you? #sfclimateweek #climateweek #specialtycoffee #sustainability #supplychain

In the heart of innovation and sustainability, I recently embarked on a fascinating journey that led me to Angelica Theresa Wong and her groundbreaking startup, LESS & CO. This visionary venture is redefining the boundaries of food sustainability by transforming what many consider waste into remarkable beverages. Through their pioneering efforts, surplus ingredients like bread and seemingly unusable fruit peels undergo a transformation into extraordinary products, including the unique CRUST beers and CROP non-alcoholic beverages. Imagine my delight when I had the opportunity to taste two of their CRUST beers. As a passionate beer enthusiast, the experience was nothing short of revelatory. The idea of savoring a beverage crafted from surplus and waste materials was both novel and thrilling. The flavors were rich, complex, and utterly delicious, leaving me both impressed and deeply inspired. The ethos behind LESS & CO is not just about creating innovative products; it's a bold statement on sustainable living and the power of creative solutions in addressing global food loss. Their mission to reduce global food loss by 1% by 2030 is not only admirable but a clarion call for all of us to play a part in this crucial movement. As I reflect on my encounter with Angelica and her dedicated team, I am filled with admiration and a renewed sense of purpose. Their work is a testament to the impact that visionary ideas, when executed with passion and precision, can have on our world. I am eager to explore ways to collaborate and help amplify the reach of their incredible products. Join me in supporting LESS & CO's mission. Together, we can contribute to a more sustainable future, one innovative sip at a time. Let's raise our glasses to change, to innovation, and to a world where every crust is saved, and every drop counts. #saveacrust #sustainability #innovation #foodwaste #beers #nonalcoholic #beverageindustry #ecoconsciousliving

COFFEE COMPANIES ON SUSTAINABILITY Coffee Companies Take the Lead on Building a Brighter Future The daily cup of coffee many of us rely on comes with an impact - on marginalized growers, vulnerable communities, and the planet we all share. That's why it is so encouraging to see many top coffee companies choose ethics over profits alone when it comes to how they source their beans. Major brands like Starbucks, Nestle, JDE, and others have committed to sustainable sourcing and fair prices that directly support coffee farmers. This ensures reliable income and resources to maintain environmentally responsible farming practices for years to come. Innovators like Blue Bottle and Counter Culture go further to establish lasting partnerships with growers based on transparency and trust. And local roasters right in our communities are doing their part too. Of course, there is more work to be done. But we should applaud these ethical companies who are listening to consumers' calls for positive change. Access to fairly traded coffee improves lives and ecosystems from crop to cup. The leaders transforming the coffee supply chain give me hope that together, we can build a brighter future for all through the power of community action and social innovation. What do you suggest these coffee companies should do to uphold sustainability? #CoffeeSustainability #SustainableCoffee #CoffeeTrends2024 #SustainableFuture #BrighterFuture #CoffeeIndustry #GreenCoffee #TrendingCoffee #CoffeeGoals #EcoFriendlyCoffee
