SVP - Talent Acquisition at Oliver James - Hiring Experienced Recruiters across the USA, UK & Ireland for our NYC office!
Another short clip in the training series 'The Journey', follow Oliver James to keep a look out for what's to come next! Just one of the many reasons I joined Oliver James (almost 8 years ago now!), was the aspirational leadership. During my first conversation with the recruitment team I couldn't quite believe what these Managers/Regional Directors had achieved in terms of career trajectory, network and of course, performance (revenue generated). Those case studies given to me as examples of fast-track progression and billing figures were not something I had thought was honestly possible, during my first 12 months in the industry. I went with my gut and interviewed, something I was almost skeptical about became a reality when I saw it all for myself, and I'll never forget those first interviews Rick Davis, Charlotte Rigby Alyson Andrews. Instead of being intimidated I relished that I would be surrounded by the top percentile of performers, not just within Oliver James, but the industry as a whole. Who better to learn from? If you want to enhance your career prospects or earnings in recruitment, or even if you're just starting out in the industry, I'd love to chat with you about how Oliver James will set you up for success. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me. #AspirationalLeadership #Recruitment #CareerProspects #OliverJames #TheJourney
In your current role, are you surrounded by successful people that inspire you? Executive Director Gary Rushton discusses the high performing environment he stepped into at Oliver James: “If they can do it and it’s happened for them, then it can happen for me!” This is a short clip from one of our training series, ‘The Journey’. This week marks my one-month milestone with WK Dickson & Co., Inc.. I recently came across an insightful article by Andrew Astleford, "8 Reflections After Starting a New Job," prompting me to reflect on my own journey during the past month. Reflecting on my experiences has been invaluable. It has allowed me to assess my professional capabilities, goals, and emotional responses. By outlining my opportunities, needs, goals, and routine, I can collaborate with my supervisor to enhance my professional growth while benefiting both myself and the company. A key lesson for me has been not to put too much emphasis on past experiences. While I recognize my transferable skills, the AEC industry holds vast unknowns for me. Rather than diving in headfirst and doggy-paddling my way through the workload (often becoming overwhelmed), my onboarding has taught me the importance of taking things step by step, allowing work to surface naturally as I grasp the task at hand. Astleford's advice, "Early in your job, don’t be afraid of how little you know. It means you’re uncomfortable. It means you’re growing. It means you’ve validated why you sought a change," deeply resonated with me. Work is a necessity for most adults, so why not find joy in the process? Embracing our lack of knowledge can lead to significant personal and professional growth. #newjob #reflection #professionaldevelopment

Yes! Sometimes, the importance of practice wisdom stemmig from passionate hearts that gained empathy & resilience through adversity gets overshadowed by other impressive qualities tied to skills & the length of professional experience. Some personal qualities & insights are so precious that they can’t be trained or obtained as credentials & skills.

When I look back on my career so far, all my memories are of interactions with people I remember the trainer from Force Management telling an entertaining story I remember the exact phrase and accent (I won’t try it) of the call when I got a Yes on my first big deal Most importantly I remember lots of fun, weird and whacky moments with friends. I don’t remember – The deal terms – The forecasting – The emails I sent – The number of calls I took My memories are all about interaction with human beings. Thats what this industry is about. Genuine connection with colleagues, clients and partners. Real shared moments in history, real fucking life. Don’t let what happens at the end of any one quarter, the pressure to hit a number, the excitement about a product, the feeling about your training or anything at all take away from one simple fact… Your job is to be human. Enjoy the human moments.

🥁 roll please - calling all Irwin Mitchell colleagues - it'll soon be time to film and share more of your stories 📽 The third phase of our life at Irwin Mitchell campaign will focus exclusively on career development. ➡ We want to hear from people who have developed and progressed over the course of their career, and those who have left and then returned. ➡ We want to hear from people who've had a successful career change, either due to personal circumstances or a desire to do something different. ➡ Whether you've worked here for decades or have recently been brought into a brand-new role, we want to hear about your background, your motivations, your mindset, your growth, your failures and your successes. The last time I shared a post like this I got a fantastic response and I'm confident I'll get something similar given the wealth of talent we have here, and the amazing number of colleagues who use this platform to talk about their career. If you're interested - or would like to suggest someone you work with - then simply send me a message explaining why or contact Lucy Stevens, MCIPR, Nicola Stocks, Rob Siddall, Adam McKinley or Amy Scott. Let’s showcase how diverse, driven and different our people are, and how important it is that we grow, together.

I’m not a Pittsburg Steelers fan 🤷♂️ but I am a fan of their coach Mike Tomlin’s philosophy.. 👉 “It’s not what you’re capable of, it’s what you’re willing to do.” The idea being: • talent alone isn’t enough • education alone isn’t enough • accolades alone aren’t enough • title alone isn’t enough There are lots of things I’m capable of. There are lots of things you’re capable of. No question, we know this. The question is.. 👉 what am I, what are you, what are we willing to do to get from point A (where we are today) to point B (where we want to be)? What are you WILLING to do? 🤔 I’m capable of making cold calls to increase my pipeline and close more deals BUT.. • am I willing to consistently put in the time, energy, and effort into cold calling? 🤔 I’m capable of doing the work, the studying, the growing, the learning to advance my career BUT.. • am I willing to consistently (and patiently) put in this level of work until I land the promotion or career advancement I’m after? 🤔 I’m capable of running my business BUT.. .• am I willing to make the sacrifices, the time, and consistent commitments necesssry to see the business through to success and profitability? 🤔 I’m capable of running a 50 mile race BUT.. .• am I willing to commitment to 6 months of training and necessary discipline and that goes into preparing for such a race and distance? 🤔 BTW - nothing wrong with saying, “no, I’m not willing.” Better to own it, admit to it than not. The question is never, are you capable? The question is always, are you willing? CTA - whatever the goal (for you, your kids, your team, your colleagues).. remeber it’s not about what they or you are capable of doing, It’s what you’re willing to do that.. that’s what matters. #motivation #sales #coaching #skyeisthelimit

The defining moment in my career happened in early 2004 💼 💼 I was working for John Lewis & Partners as a selling Department Manager, and the Managing Director of John Lewis Southampton asked me to step away from my selling role to join the HR team. 💼 Back then it was called Staff Office, these were very different times! 💼 I had been hoping to move to a particular selling department, in fact I was convinced that's why my MD wanted to talk to me. I think he knew, and on reflection I'm convinced he knew I might not be too keen on a role in Staff Office. 💼 I was professional and listened to his request, of course I said yes, these were the early days of my career and ultimately I was (and continue to be) driven by helping others achieve collective goals for the success of the team. I've always loved understanding my role in the big picture, and he knew how to paint that picture, engaging and motivating me to be my very best. ⭐ Little did I know this would be the most significant moment in my career, as over the weeks, months and years that followed I discovered my calling. ⭐ Indulging briefly in my memories of John Lewis, I worked with some of the most inspirational and hard working people, and I am fortunate to now call many of them friends. Claire Dunkason thank you for that first opportunity to be part of your team, I have zero regrets and am grateful for the huge learning opportunities that came with our time in Staff Office, and of course the fun. Today on International HR Day, I am celebrating; 🎉 the opportunity that presented itself to me 20 years ago 🎉 saying YES 🎉 the fabulous people I had the opportunity to work with and learn from at JL ⭐ You never know what is around the corner, and how one seemingly small decision can have such a powerful impact on you and those around you for days and years to come. ⭐ So, as I continue to shape my own future in HR with The Best Version I encourage you to be open and brave to the opportunities that are ahead of you, to trust your instincts and be true to the best version of you. What is YOUR defining moment? 📷 Pic circa 2011 with some of that fabulous HR team Letty Harrison Tanya Ingram Tina Lott Vicci Parker #InternationalHRDay #legacy #bestversion #bravery #reflection

Continuous learning is what sets you up for promising potential. This potential is well maximized when you start leading the charge for a department and pass on what you have learned to other teammates. One employee who has consistently done this from day 1 is Carlos Roman. After just six months at Van Martin, we promoted him to Production Manager. Please join us in congratulating Carlos on his well-earned promotion! "This promotion means greater responsibility, new challenges, and opportunities for growth in my career. Working for Van Martin has been one of the greatest things that has happened to me, not just professionally but personally, with how much time has been invested in me to help me grow. Van Martin's commitment to employee development and core values is something we should all emulate. I look forward to learning and developing more skills and forging strong connections with my team to reach new heights together. I'm determined to leave a mark, both professionally and personally, and to continue to grow and excel in my career journey." - Carlos Roman, Production Manager #continuouslearning #corevalues #promotion #welldone
