Thrilling news in the maritime world! 🚢 Last month marks the naming ceremony of A.P. Moller - Maersk 's first large methanol-enabled container vessel, "Ane Mærsk," at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea. This groundbreaking vessel, honoring Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla, Chair of the A.P. Moller Foundation, signifies a major stride in sustainable shipping solutions. 🌍 Ane Mærsk leads a fleet of 18 vessels joining Maersk between 2024 and 2025. As the world’s second methanol-enabled container vessel, it's set to embark on its maiden voyage using green methanol, a key element in Maersk's low-emissions strategy. 🚀 Distinguished by an innovative design, placing the bridge and accommodation at the front for superior fuel efficiency, Ane Mærsk is scheduled to operate on the AE7 string connecting Asia and Europe from February, marking a significant leap in Maersk's climate ambitions. Vincent Clerc , CEO of A.P. Moller-Maersk, affirms, "This vessel series will transform our commitment to a more sustainable industry. 'Ane Mærsk' and its counterparts expand offerings for businesses aiming to reduce emissions in their supply chains." Stay curious! 😉 Credit: Deutsche Welle #ShippingInnovation #Sustainability #AneMærsk #GreenShipping #MaritimeAdvancements

A huge thank you to Informa Markets for crowning us the winners of the Digitalisation award at the Marine Fuels 360 event in Singapore! 🌟 Our Managing Director for ZeroNorth Bunker, Kenneth Juhls, received the award in person at the celebration dinner. The Digitalisation award recognises projects, products, and processes that have positively impacted the marine fuel industry from the perspective of transparency, traceability, operational excellence, and generally, moving towards digitalisation by using one or more technologies in bunkering and innovation that puts users ahead of the competition. 2023 has been a milestone year for bunkering – for the whole industry as well as at ZeroNorth. Our acquisition of Prosmar Bunkering and the recent acceptance of eBDNs is a huge step forward for the bunker sector’s digitalisation and we’re excited to continue leading more collaboration to work towards progress, which aligns to our overall vision to make global trade greener. 💚 #marinefuels360 #singapore #digitalisation #bunkering

CCO Spot Ship | Top 100 Inspirational Females of Ocean & Energy | Maritime Commentator - digitalisation, decarbonisation, commodities
#Scotland is definitely famous for Tartan Bagpipes Loch Ness Whisky Highlands And a couple more things. We don’t often hear about it’s strong connection to the maritime industry. And yet, here we go. Scotland is a proud maritime nation. The country’s seas, coasts and islands are an important part of national identity, highly contributing to creating/sustaining jobs and opportunities locally, and internationally. The unique mix of ownership models and a stable development framework has enabled great successes over the years: 2022 numbers revealed a £2.2 billion in economic activity and 85,000 jobs. The Scottish maritime sector has shown great leadership in the development of new technologies, with hybrid and battery-operated ferries already in service, and the Scottish oil, gas and renewables industries leading the way in helping meet the UK’s energy needs with cleaner, greener energy. With a large proportion of employment in the Marine Oil and Gas activities concentrated in Scotland, it is the largest industry within the Scottish Maritime Sector in terms of economic activity. Particularly, In 2021, the United Kingdom was the second largest producer of natural gas, petroleum + products in OECD Europe and its offshore renewables sector is the second largest in the world. The vast majority of this industry is based in waters around the Scottish coast. Spot Ship too feels part of this legacy, and wants to shine a light on not only the significance of Scotland to shipping and of Shipping to Scotland, but also on the current and potential value of the #Offshore sector. For this reason, we have decided to launch our first #IE week event in Tartan theme, during which we will make an exciting announcement about our next product release. 28th February - stay tuned!

Why Methanol as a Marine Fuel? Methanol can reduce SOx and PM emissions by more than 95 per cent, and NOx by up to 80 per cent compared to conventional marine fuels. Biomethanol and e-methanol can become low-carbon on a life-cycle basis. Methanol is available at more than 125 of the world's largest ports.

🚢Maersk continues its fleet renewal program with planned orders and charter contracts of 800,000 TEU. The vessels come in different sizes offering great network flexibility. To support our commitment to decarbonisation, all vessels will be dual-fuel and able to operate on low emissions fuel. “Our fleet renewal program is fundamental to maintaining competitive edge in our ocean business, and it is a cornerstone in decarbonising our operations. As the shipyard orderbooks have been filling up quickly and lead time for vessel deliveries have increased significantly, we decided to place orders and charter contracts of 800,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent) dual-fuel vessels, which ensures a steady flow of needed capacity for our network for the years 2026-2030 while building a competitive toolkit,” says Rabab Boulos, Chief Operating Officer at Maersk. It's great to see Maersk continuing its fleet renewal program with a focus on decarbonization. The decision to order and charter contracts of 800,000 TEU dual-fuel vessels shows a commitment to reducing emissions. Is there more A.P. Moller - Maersk can do? 1: Enhancing crew safety training with interactive VR simulations, providing realistic scenarios for operating new dual-fuel vessels and handling low-emission fuels like methanol and liquefied gas, thus improving safety and operational efficiency 2: Optimizing fleet management and logistics by creating digital twins of vessels and ports, enabling real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance, which could further support Maersk's decarbonization goals and operational flexibility We look forward to seeing more companies follow in Maersk's footsteps towards a more sustainable future. #maersk #allthewaytozero #oceantransport #energytransition #decarbonisation #VRSafety #digitaltwin

Construction starts on Stena Line’s first methanol-ready NewMax hybrid ferry Swedish ferry company Stena Line has marked a milestone on its journey towards sustainable shipping with the steel-cutting ceremony for the first of its methanol-ready ‘NewMax’ hybrid ferries. The construction began at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Weihai, China, last week. Last year, Stena Line announced that two new hybrid freight ferries had been ordered from Stena RoRo destined for the Belfast – Heysham route, with the first due to enter service in autumn 2025. The 147-meter-long ‘NewMax’ vessels have an efficient hull form to maximize freight volumes and their addition to the route will boost freight capacity by 80% compared to current ship capacity. The new hybrid ships will play a key role in Stena Line’s journey to sustainable fuel as they will both be able to operate on methanol fuel. https://bit.ly/41YnKJm #methanol #efuel #marine #maritime #futurefuel #sustainable
