Olympic Refuge Foundation’s Post

🧠 What’s the evidence on how sport improves the mental health of young refugees? On World Mental Health Day, we highlight the impact of sports on mental health of young people affected by displacement. Game Connect is ORF's mental health programme in Uganda aimed at improving the well-being of displaced youth and host communities aged 15-24 through sports-based interventions. Recent findings from Makerere University on our Game Connect programme reveal significant mental health improvements among participants: ◾ Anxiety symptoms: 📉Reduced from 55% to 6% ◾ Depression symptoms: 📉 Reduced from 57% to 6% One participant shared, “Training made my body physically fit, I got a chance of making new friends, and I started being happy.” Our Partners: AVSI Foundation, Youth Sport Uganda, Right To Play, Uganda Olympic Committee and UNHCR Uganda.
