📌 What is the reason for stopper rise and stopper wash in tundish during continuous casting of steel? During continuous casting of steel, the stopper rise and stopper wash in the tundish can impact the casting process. Let’s explore these phenomena: 👉 Stopper Rise: Definition: Stopper rise refers to the upward movement of the tundish stopper rod during casting. 👉 Cause: The difference in thermal expansion between the body material and the metallic rod leads to the connection eventually slackening. During preheating and use, the thin graphite seal provides limited elasticity, and leaks may occur due to vibration and lateral stopper movement. 👉 Impact: Stopper rise affects the flow control of molten steel from the tundish to the mold. It can lead to variations in steel flow rates and affect the quality of the cast product. 📌 Stopper Wash: Definition: Stopper wash occurs when inclusions or impurities deposit on the tundish stopper nose during casting. 📌 Cause: As the molten steel flows through the channel between the stopper rod and the outlet, inclusions deposit on the outlet surface, narrowing the channe. 📌 Impact: Stopper wash can reduce the effective flow area, affecting the steel flow rate and potentially leading to defects in the cast product. #SteelMaking #Manufacturing #Metallurgy #MetallurgicalEngineering #tundishcar

Steel billet making is a fascinating process where molten metal is poured into molds to create long, rectangular blocks. These billets are the basic building blocks for many steel products. The process begins with raw materials being melted in a furnace. The molten metal is then cast into molds, cooled and solidified. Once cooled the billets are cut to desired lengths and stored for further processing. This method ensures the production of high-quality steel with consistent properties. THE WAY WE WORK: STEEL CASTINGS Equipped with powerful induction furnaces for casting, at EIPC we follow strict protocols for metal preparation, performing rigorous controls on the chemical composition of the material and ensuring the desired quality and mechanical properties of the final part. The molten metal is carefully poured using gravity casting, depending on the geometry and specifications of the part. During casting, the speed and flow of the metal is controlled by carefully designed feeding and venting systems to obtain a complete and uniform filling of the mould, thus minimising casting defects such as air bubbles or metal inclusions. #lostwaxcasting #precisioncasting #foundry #DieCasting #Metalcasting #metalparts #alluminium #steel #steelalloys #investmentcasting #additivemanufacturing #valvesupplychain #components #industry #expertise #alloys #innovation

Picture of the month: Tensile test with “thick” steel strip This image shows a sample of our cold rolled steel strip with a thickness of approx. 10 mm being torn apart during a tensile test. The clearly recognizable necking in the strip thickness and width indicates high levels of ductility in this soft, fineblankable grade. Ductility refers to a material’s ability to deform plastically before it breaks. This is an important parameter for subsequent fineblanking by our customers. Learn more about our cold rolled steel strip in high thickness ranges in our related news article (see link in the comments). #potm #pictureofthemonth #qualityassurance #materialstechnology #steel #coldrolledsteel #steelindustry #inspireinnovateimprove

A913 high-strength steel is available in yield strengths up to 80 ksi, which can reduce steel tonnage by over 30% in strength-controlled members. But where exactly does this extra strength come from? The answer lies in the additional grain refinement provided by the quenching and self-tempering (QST) process. In this process, hot steel sections (approximately 1600 F) are subject to swift, controlled cooling (quenching), which is interrupted before the core of the cross-section is entirely affected. The residual heat within the core facilitates self-tempering as it migrates from the core to the surface. QST is an “in line” process, meaning the steel will not leave the production line to receive treatment, resulting in an inherently efficient and performance-enhancing process that does not affect the lead time of the material. #structuralsteel #sustainablesteel
