After speaking to constituents from door knocking, on the street, local businesses and events here is what the common concerns are:
1. Safety, Safety, Safety - We want to feel safe again and that is not the case anymore and only getting worse.
2. High taxes - If we are paying high taxes what’s our return because we don’t see it. Even core services are subpar at best.
3. Transparency - We want visibility on spending and what is all going on at city hall. Feel like we have to dig to find basic information and that’s not how it should be.
4. Public input - We want to have a voice and feel acknowledged and that’s far from the case. Extremely hard to attend meetings for our five min speaking point only to feel ignored. If we do contact our councillor it usually goes on deaf ears.
5. DEED - simply put, we don’t want it!
People are tired of the same old, same old. You can’t keep doing the same thing over and over yet expect a different result. A lot of these councillors have had multiple terms to dig in and get something done to inflict positive change. This is just not happening. When you’re a multiple term councillor and people don’t even know your name and they have lived together in the area for 10+ years that’s an issue.
Overall I am happy with my progress so far and look forward to the coming months leading up to the election.
