I ask that to share this: Understanding Affinity Bias. During the recruitment process or tender award process unconscious bias and affinity bias can play a significant role in determining which candidate or supplier is success. As people buy from people, Affinity bias suggests that where 2 people share similarities, be it interests of experiences, their better judgement may be influenced. Example • One candidate went to the same university as the hiring manager, vs the other. • Buyer shares the same image and reflection as one of the Suppliers bidding for work. Last week I spoke at the Novo-K Procurement Solutions and UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) ‘Women in Procurement’ event where I discussed how to build inclusive habits during a tender process. ✳️ Slow down to check for your own bias. ✳️ Invite peers to review selection. ✳️ Identify triggers that may cause bias.
