Where is peninsula Malaysia's multi-culturalism headed with Mahatir an immigrant's son and his side-kicks of the past and now in opposition to him still wallowing in fanatism, greed and so on. Dislike for non-malays is racially and religiously motivated. Stop burying your heads and start living in peace, harmony and mutual respect with the non-malays. Yesterday marked the 49th Anniversary of the end of what Americans call the Vietnam War. In Vietnam, it’s referred to as "Liberation Day." For refugees from South Vietnam, like my family, we refer to it as “The Day We Lost Our Country.” Each name reflects a different view of the same event. At CuriosityBased, we value these diverse perspectives. We believe in perspective taking, which means trying to see things from someone else's point of view. This idea is central to our approach in the 7 Forms of Respect. It’s a common misconception that we teach respect; we actually help people practice curiosity around what respect means to them. The reality, for most of us, is that this seems like a science fiction novel. A story so odd and foreign, fantastical even, that it might as well be about aliens from outer space - interesting but not relatable so we put the novel down and take the kids to soccer practice. But it's not a novel. It's not fiction. It's very real. There are approximately 1 million Rohingya refugees living in the world's largest refugee camp, in shelters and tents made of plastic and whatever else they can use, in Bangladesh. But, that's just one group of Rohingya refugees. The states of Wyoming, Vermont, Alaska, North Dakota, and South Dakota, each have populations of less that 1 million people. These international cities all have a population of less than that: Vancouver, Canada; Frankfurt, Germany; Seattle, USA; Denver, USA; Lisbon, Portugal, These countries have populations similar to their totals: Bahrain; Estonia; Mauritius; Swaziland (Eswatini); Cyprus. #TheMoreYouKnow #humanity #challengethestatusquo #ethicalleadership #globalaffairs #ronhingya

The Yoruba People: The Yorùbá people are a Niger-Congo ethnic group of southwestern and north-central Nigeria, as well as southern and central Benin. Together, these regions are known as Yorubaland. The Yoruba constitute about 44 million people in total. Majority of this population is from Nigeria, where the Yorùbá make up 21% of the country’s population, according to the CIA World Factbook, making them one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa. Most Yoruba people speak the Yoruba language, which is tonal, and is the Niger-Congo language with the largest number of native speakers. The Yorùbá share borders with the very closely related Itsekiri to the south-east in the North West Niger delta, Bariba to the northwest in Benin, the Nupe to the north and the Ebira to the northeast in central Nigeria. To the east are the Edo, Ẹsan and the Afemai groups in mid-western Nigeria. Adjacent to the Ebira and Edo groups are the related Igala people found in the northeast, on the left bank of the Niger River. To the southwest are the Gbe speaking Mahi, Egun, Fon and Ewewho border Yoruba communities in Benin and Togo. To the southeast are Itsekiri who live in the north-west end of the Niger delta. They are ancestrally related to the Yoruba but chose to maintain a distinct cultural identity. Significant Yoruba populations in other West African countries can be found in Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia and Sierra Leone. The Yoruba diaspora consists of two main groupings; one of them includes relatively recent migrants, the majority of which moved to the United Kingdom and the United States after major economic and political changes in the 1960s to 1980s. The other dates to the Atlantic slave trade and has communities in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Saint Lucia, Jamaica, Brazil, Grenada, and Trinidad and Tobago, and other countries. #theinsiderreporter #culture #history #yoruba #africa

The practice of slavery was enforced in Mauritius from 1638 to 1835, covering the Dutch, French and early British occupations. By 1810, during the French occupation, slaves accounted to 80% of the population of the Island (called Isle de France) and those slaves were brought mostly from Madagascar, West African coast and South-East of Africa. The British captured the island in 1810 and maintained slave trade until 1833 when the House of Commons passed an act for the abolition of slavery in all British Colonies. Slavery was formerly abolished in Mauritius, Rodrigues and Seychelles in the 1st February 1835. 1834 can be said to have marked the transitional period from the abolishing of slavery to the arrival of the first Indian labourers, a move which pioneered the migration of several other nations including Europeans and Asians, eventually transforming the character of Mauritian life and industry. Fast-forward into the future, today the 1.3 million population of Mauritius consist of descents from India, China, Africa, France, England, and several other countries around the world with Creole, French and English being the common spoken languages marking the beginning of a multiculturally diversified island nation called Mauritius.
