The #FASTConference at #Ecosperity Week 2024 highlighted an important issue for Southeast Asia. According to #IMF estimates, the region requires $1.1 Trillion in annual transition infrastructure investment, yet the actual investment currently stands at only $333 Billion. This leaves an $815 Billion gap on an annual basis! While #ASEAN governments, #Temasek, #AIB, and other organizations are making efforts to bridge this gap, private capital must also increase innovation to ensure more initiatives become 'bankable.' Structuring exposures, increasing the velocity of capital and better leveraging government guarantees are just a few ways to achieve this. These innovations will support #ecopreneurs like Cristobal Chin at Chow Energy to execute their vision and meet the #ParisAgreement. Last week, Chris Gorell Barnes joined Adelaide Cracco, Head of Climate & Environmental Impact Investments, European Investment Fund (EIF), Guillaume Baxter, Principle at Sofinnova Partners, Jon Trygve Berg, Partner Sarsia Seed Management and Lissy Smit, CEO, Aqua-Spark, at the BlueInvest Day. Under the heading 'The Sustainable Blue Economy: New Perspectives for Investors', the panel discussed the future of sustainable blue technologies: new innovations that promise to transform industries; the evolving investment landscape; and reflections on the impact of ESG regulations on sustainable financing and the uptake of new technologies.   An estimated €147 billion per year globally is needed to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14: Life Below Water by 2030. To date, only €21 billion is available: of this, €16.8 billion comes from domestic and international public sources and €4.2 billion from private investors. This leaves a funding gap of €126 billion still to be addressed and mobilising private capital is critical to closing the gap.
