In a world that often values self-interest & personal gain, it’s important to remember the power of sacrifice & selflessness. Sacrifice is the ultimate act of love & compassion, demonstrating our willingness to put others before ourselves. Whether it’s giving up our time, resources, or even our own desires, sacrifice has the ability to inspire & encourage those around us. The ultimate test of a man's conscience may be his willingness to sacrifice something today for future generations whose words of thanks will not be heard. Great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice, and is never the result of selfishness. What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains & is immortal. #iQor #MemorialDay iQor

What is often unspoken about Memorial Day is its origins in the quest for civil rights and the search for peace. According to the Office of Veterans Affairs, it originated after a series of “Decoration Days” were organized by Black and White communities to honor fallen soldiers following the Civil War. One of the most significant of these events was held by a group of Black and White abolitionists in May 1865. In 1868, General John A. Logan, the head of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), a politically powerful organization of Union veterans, made it an official act, speaking of the practice of floral tributes and “Decoration Days” in the context of post-war Black civil rights. It was not until after WW1 that Memorial Day began to expand to honor the dead from all American wars. As we take time today to celebrate the lives of those fallen soldiers who have served this country, let us also remember that the origin of Memorial Day is rooted in the struggle to end slavery and the search for “permanent peace. We remember all who served, volunteered, and died in war, conflict, and peacekeeping. We thank them for their service and reflect on their sacrifice. This Anzac Day, we highlight the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Thank you to the Deadly Story website for the below excerpts: “Our mob fought in large numbers during the World Wars, despite the fact that they were legally barred from serving. “A strong motivator for many was the promise of fair treatment and equality whilst in the armed forces." Racism still existed in the armed forces. But many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander soldiers have said they were treated better. In World War II, many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service people were also promised full citizenship rights on their return. When they returned, they "found the same and in some cases worse discrimination, colonisation and injustice as when they’d left". Many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service people were not respected as veterans. They did not have their contributions recognised. "Recently, through the tireless work of families of service people and others, there has been more recognition of the contributions and bravery of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the military." Adelaide unveiled the first memorial for Aboriginal soldiers in 2013. There are also memorials in Warrnambool and Mildura. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gzc43S4r #LestWeForget #Reconciliation

This one article actually really annoyed me by what it brought up. And I am basically posting my comment on the original post. But seriously… It's really baffling to think why anyone would suggest that Indigenous casualties of the Frontier Wars should not be honored at the Australian War Memorial simply because they didn't fight "in uniform." It’s the actions anyway that should be honoured, not how people were dressed. Though what others wear should be respected. Are they really going to undermine people that fought and died for their country and its people over it? That is taking away from respecting the soldiers bravery and sacrifice. The War Memorial absolutely should recognize the efforts of "ununiformed" individuals, like the Dayak people. So, what’s the big deal in this context? The First Nations "guerilla campaigns" of the Frontier Wars in the War Memorial would be a powerful way to acknowledge the historical significance of these conflicts and pay tribute to the sacrifices made by Indigenous Australians. It's about embracing a more comprehensive understanding of Australia's military history and honoring all those who played a part, regardless of whether they wore a “traditional” uniform or not. And if they really want to get into it… technically they were wearing Australia’s true traditional war uniforms. You can only imagine how other soliders or even their families would feel if their effort and sacrifices were undermined by someone who would consider what they were wearing and how they were defending their country and families not worthy of respect?

Last year, chair of the Australian War Memorial Kim Beazley called for First Nations “guerilla campaigns” of the Frontier Wars to be included in the Australian War Memorial. His bid was criticised by the RSL Australia’s president Major General Greg Melick. They argued Indigenous casualties of the Frontier Wars could not be honoured at the War Memorial because they did not fight “in uniform”. But the Australian War Memorial already honours “ununiformed” First Nations soldiers – namely Dayak people who assisted in Borneo during World War 2.

Religions are there to unite us and have the target to bring people together in oneness..... It are the human interpretations that make a mess out of this. We need nonviolent interaction as equals. This will lead to mutual understanding and empathy, it will exchange fear and hatred for trust and solidarity, and let humanity grow together in relation to God. www.samadeus.org & www.pax.ngo

I love it when Jewish voices speak up for #Ceasefire „More than 450 rabbis called on President Joe Biden Friday to end the war in Gaza, adding momentum to growing calls for a ceasefire among liberal American Jews who have become deeply uncomfortable with Israel’s military operation. „
'It’s just more death': Hundreds more rabbis demand ceasefire as call gains mainstream traction
