There has been a lot of discussion in the media recently about the concept of the 15-Minute City and how it will change the future of urban design around the world. Chapman Taylor has been applying 15-Minute City principles on large-scale urban design projects for several years now, particularly in China. The essence of the 15-Minute City is to design an urban district so that all of the uses and amenities a person needs can be found within a 15-minute walk of where they live, with those functions placed intelligently so that the shorter journeys are for more regular trips. With Singapore getting warmer, what are some green strategies to make buildings cooler and more comfortable for occupants?   In the design of J’den, CapitaLand Development’s upcoming mixed-use development in the heart of #JurongLakeDistrict, we integrate water bodies and abundant greenery covering over 100% of the site area, to naturally reduce ambient temperatures. In July 2023, extreme heat in Phoenix led to severe burns due to asphalt temperatures reaching 82°C. This alarming reality is signalling a critical need to rethink urban spaces in the face of climate change. 🌍 Architects and urban planners must urgently address this challenge. ArchDaily investigated strategies such as green spaces, traditional cooling methods and urban oases. Because we are threatened with a potential temperature rise of 3.7°C by 2100, the adaptation of our cities is of paramount importance.
