Messina College at Boston College is now offering associate degrees, which could open the door to more first-gen students from lower-income backgrounds earning a bachelor's degree at Boston College! BC joins a handful of other selective four-year institutions opening two-year schools for students who might otherwise not be admitted there but will have the opportunity to transfer after earning an associate degree. 🎓 If successful, the new model would offer another pathway for students to a bachelor's degree. From our Joshua Wyner in Boston Globe Media, "If BC can use this as a way of bringing in lower-income students at a lower price point, then enabling them to transfer to BC or four-year colleges at a higher rate than what happens nationally, that would be an important model to share with the rest of the country". 👉 Access the full article: https://lnkd.in/gDmrhd-4

When you’re applying to college, understanding the difference between Early Action and Early Decision is crucial. These are two paths you can take, and each has its own set of rules. Think of it as choosing your route in a game – each choice leads to a different adventure. Understanding between Early Action vs Early Decision is one of the first big choices you’ll make in your college application journey. Knowing the differences between EA and ED can shape your college application strategy. Each has benefits and drawbacks. For instance, EA gives you more flexibility and options, while ED is a commitment to your dream school. #earlyactionvsearlydecision #collegeadmissions #admissionsight #princeton #highschool #harvard #highschoolstudents #caltech #students #college #university #undergrad #education #ivyleague #admissions #academics #stanford #yale #mit #columbia #cornell #brown #upenn #uchicago https://lnkd.in/gh4NwpFY

Great article from Alton B. Nelson, Jr. about how schools can create systems and practices to support all students to meet California’s A-G course requirements. "More than half of all students, and over two-thirds of Black and Latino students, did not meet these requirements — too often because the courses were not offered or the students didn’t know they were needed. This means they are ineligible for admission into California’s public universities." It doesn’t have to be this way, and it’s our responsibility to make sure schools’ high school curriculum is aligned to the A-G requirements and that we have the right supports in place to help students complete them. Shout-out to Alton and the Making Waves Academy team for supporting over 95% of Making Waves Academy students to meet these requirements so that college is an option on their path to economic mobility and to achieving their goals. https://lnkd.in/g3DYTdb6
