✨Thrive Non-Profit Spotlight✨ Last week you got to learn a little more about the events and ways that Ground Zero connects with our area's youth. It's not uncommon though for people to not support such organizations because they do not have children who could benefit directly. At Ground Zero (www.mygroundzero.com), it’s not just about the kids attending their events — it’s about the entire community coming together to build stronger, more supportive environments for everyone. 🤝💙 Ground Zero provides a safe, fun space for youth to engage in positive activities, grow through mentorship, and develop leadership skills. But even if you don’t have children attending their programs, the impact is felt throughout our entire community: ✔️ Stronger Families: By offering resources for youth and families, Ground Zero helps create healthier, more connected households. ✔️ Reduced Strain on Local Resources: With safe spaces for teens, fewer young people fall through the cracks, helping to reduce the strain on schools, police, and other community services. ✔️ A Vibrant, Resilient Community: Supporting organizations like Ground Zero ensures that our neighborhoods continue to thrive, with engaged, empowered individuals who care about the collective well-being. We may not always see it directly, but these organizations make a huge difference in creating a brighter future for all of us. 🌱 Let’s continue to support and uplift their mission, even if we’re not personally involved. 💪 For more information, visit www.mygroundzero.com! #SupportOurCommunity #GroundZero #MakingADifference #InvestInYouth #CommunityStrong

You are not as powerless as you feel. In the funding system, it’s easy to feel powerless: ⚡ Communities face overwhelming challenges and marginalisation. ⚡ Nonprofits struggle with mounting demands and shrinking, restrictive funding. ⚡ Fundraisers contend with fewer opportunities and grantmakers shutting their doors. ⚡ Grantmakers grapple with overwhelming need and limited control over their funds. ⚡ Foundation executives face critique, misalignment with boards, and funding constraints. ⚡ Even boards feel boxed in by ethical, legal, and financial restrictions. But here’s the truth: we are not powerless. When we change our mindset, find the right community, and access the right resources, we can find and use our power. Together, we can: ⚡ Learn best practices and be inspired by what others are achieving. ⚡ Reflect on our role in the funding system and work to change it for the better. ⚡ Connect instead of competing, collaborating on designing the best ways forward. ⚡ Imagine a better future for philanthropy—and build it together. Feeling powerless isn’t easy, but is does come with one benefit: it means it's someone else's problem to solve. But, we're all part of the problem, and need to be part of the solution(s). And, it’s possible when we harness our collective power. Every role in the funding system has the ability to influence and shape it. The key is finding the support and community to unlock that potential. That’s why the #FixTheFlow Fellowship exists: to bring fundraisers, grantmakers, and nonprofit leaders together to connect, collaborate, and reimagine what’s possible in philanthropy. If you’re ready to stop feeling powerless and start creating change, this is the community for you. Apply by Dec 20 and join a movement that’s reshaping the future of the funding system. Unconventional thinking isn't just for startups. It's the secret weapon of thriving nonprofits. In my years at the YMCA, I've seen firsthand how thinking differently can transform communities: • Gamifying volunteer recruitment → 3x more sign-ups • Reverse mentoring programs → bridging generational gaps • "Failure Fridays" → celebrating risks and learning The most successful nonprofits aren't just solving problems. They're reimagining what's possible. What's the most unconventional strategy you've seen work in the nonprofit world? #NonprofitInnovation #CommunityImpact

Today, we (Empower All Inc.) celebrate 4 transformative years of breaking barriers and creating pathways for youth to unlock their full potential. What began with a group of friends in a "Think Tank" session—dreaming about shattering barriers and creating pathways for youth to achieve their highest potential—has grown into a movement fueled by passion, purpose, and perseverance. Inspired by our visionary leader’s (Valencia Hicks-Harris, PhD) compassion for youth + commitment to education + doctoral research on actionable ways to ignite marginalized youth’s interest in STEAM education, Empower All Inc. was born. From that moment on, we’ve been dedicated to Activating the Inner Genius of our Youth and empowering the next generation. The journey has been anything but easy, yet it has been deeply fulfilling: *We’ve faced growing pains, restructured, and kept moving forward. *Countless grant applications, numerous events, and community collaborations. *Tears as we bid farewell to Junior Board Members heading to college and Board Members moving away. *Joy as attendance at our annual summit continues to grow. *Honors through amazing awards and recognitions. *Sacrifice as we pooled personal funds to ensure the work never stopped. But through it all, one thing remains the same: our unwavering commitment to uplifting youth and our mission to Empower All. To our supporters, family, friends, and community—THANK YOU! Your encouragement fuels our work, and we are so grateful for your partnership. What’s Next? Tomorrow, December 3, 2024, is recognized globally as a Day of Giving! We encourage you to support one or more local non-profits in your area. Donations are tax-deductible, and no amount is too small—it all adds up to make a BIG impact. If you’d like to support us, we PROMISE to keep uplifting our community. Let’s work together to make this world a better place! https://lnkd.in/e4QJNeXZ Now, let’s say it together: EMPOWER ALL on 4… 1… 2… 3… 4! #EmpowerAll #4YearAnniversary #STEAMEducation #YouthEmpowerment #DayOfGiving #CommunityMatters

How can we build truly equitable partnerships in philanthropy? 🤔 The first step is realising that there are different ways of doing things! Power dynamics can be challenged, different engagement methods can be implemented, and community-led change can be prioritised. “I dream for a living” 💭✨ This morning, as I sat down to work, I pulled one of my “Beyond Grit” reflection cards from a deck created by my phenomenal coach, Cindra Kamphoff, Ph.D., CSP, CMPC, and it struck a chord. I DO dream for a living. I dream of the world that the nonprofits I admire so deeply are working tirelessly to create. It’s the world I want my children to live in: 🌱 A world where every child has access to an excellent education, one that unlocks their unique brilliance and sets them up to thrive. 🏙️ A world where communities are vibrant and equitable, where every neighborhood is a place of opportunity, no matter the zip code. 🌍 A world where we protect our natural resources and reverse the devastating impacts of climate change, leaving a healthier planet for future generations. ❤️ A world where no lives are lost to diseases we know how to cure, and the list of incurable illnesses grows shorter every year. 🤝 A world where nonprofits have the support and resources they need to turn these dreams into reality—where funding is not a barrier but a catalyst for change. This is why I do what I do. It’s not just about raising money; it’s about creating a bridge between vision and impact. It’s about turning dreams into plans, and plans into lasting impact. 👉 What dreams are fueling you? Share them below—I’d love to hear how hear about the world you're building for our children. And if you have big dreams but need help finding the funding to make them come true, let's connect: https://lnkd.in/g2D-MbdP #Fundraising #NonprofitLeadership #DreamBig #SocialImpact #NonprofitConsulting #BeyondGrit #ChangeMakers

Most grant makers get these two things wrong: 1. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒚 As funders, we're part of a funding system, alongside the other organisations and funders doing the same thing. If we think of our role as purely churning through a grant making process, often the issue areas we care about will lose-out in the long run. We have to engage with the STRATEGY that is needed to create impact for the field, and understand the needs, the nuances, the landscape, the misconceptions, the potential. We have to reflect on the unique role of philanthropy, and our specific funding, in solving the problems at hand in collaboration with other funders, the state, and our grantees. And, we have to join forces with our grantee partners to define our strategies, and discover what is and isn't working. 2. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 When we fail to achieve the impact we want, struggle to keep up with the workload, feel like we're not trained or supported enough to succeed, and don't have the headspace or power to be strategic, it's easy to blame ourselves. Sure, there's a lot we can do to build our skills, confidence and success, but there's a lot that can't be solved alone - the funding system isn't working. If you take a purely individual view of these challenges, you'll not only struggle to address them, but you'll also potentially become part of the problem yourself - by learning to play a rigged game, rather than changing it. If you want to be a part of a movement 'Resource Activists' who are learning not just how to 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚 the game of philanthropy, but also 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 the game, apply to join the #FixTheFlow Fellowship here by 21 June: https://lnkd.in/eB7CMgUJ #philanthropy #grantmaking #grantgivers #grants #funders #foundations

What if everyone had the power to shape the future? 💭 At The Million Project, our vision is a world where every individual can make an impact—no matter how small—on the causes that matter to them. We dream of a global community where charity is no longer limited by wealth, geography, or status. In this world, anyone with the will to help can drive real, lasting change. For far too long, the power to influence big societal shifts has been held in the hands of a few. But what if we all had a voice? What if each of us could help decide where resources go and which causes deserve the most attention? We’re creating a future where millions of voices come together to decide the future of philanthropy. A future where small contributions can lead to massive transformations. A future where everyone—no matter who they are or where they come from—can help build a better world. It’s not just about charity. It’s about empowerment. Together, we can reimagine how change happens and create a world where every single one of us has the power to make a difference. Are you ready to be part of it? 🌍
