About us

Thanks to the support of people living in, working in, and who care about Islington, we are able to change lives for good in our borough. Since 2010, we've worked with a diverse range of partners on innovative, effective support for local people. So far, we've reached almost 30,000 people, supported by over 8,000 volunteers. We've done this because people living in Islington face complex challenges. We have the highest levels of depression and serious mental ill health in London. 38% of children here live in poverty. We have the least green space of any borough in the UK. We are the first of 20 (and counting) members of London's Giving, a movement that is growing collaborative local philanthropy in the capital. Join us today to help change even more lives.

  • Re-introducing ourselves for the New Year and for anyone who’s new around here! 👋🏼 Hi, we’re Islington Giving! We are a coalition of local people, businesses and organisations working together to create positive change in Islington. While Islington is full of opportunities, it is also one of the most unequal places in the country. That’s why we raise funds, give grants and share power to support local people and projects. Our vision of Islington is a strong, connected Islington where everyone can thrive. As the first ‘Giving’ in London, we inspired the London’s Giving movement, which is now active in 20 boroughs. Want to get involved? Let’s make it happen together! Get in touch with us today and visit our website to find out more. • Cook for Good Men’s Grub Club is exactly the kind of initiative that shows how connection and practical skills can go hand in hand, tackling social isolation while bringing people together over the joy of cooking (and maybe a bit of dancing too🕺🏽)! #IslingtonImpact #SocialIsolation #Islington Cripplegate Foundation Islington Giving Alumni

It's a challenge all #socialenterprises face: when you have competing priorities, which one do you focus on first? But our Men's Grub Club is a brilliant example of tackling two things at the same time, in a totally life-affirming way. It's just 18 months since we set up the club, aiming to address the twin challenges of #socialisolation and cooking experience gaps among our older male residents. In that time, they have gone from neighbours to friends, and picked up some chef-level skills along the way, including learning to chop like a pro (nice one, James). We can't take any credit for Habib's dancing though 🕺😂. We've loved watching their relationships and skills grow, and can't wait to see what they get up to next time. Big thanks to Auto Trader UK for sponsoring our current incarnation of the Grub Club, and to Cripplegate Foundation for supporting its initial phase, via Islington Giving.

  • This #TimeToTalk day and #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek we wanted to share some helpful links and resources – because every conversation about mental health matters.💚 Did you know that one in four of our neighbours and 38% of Islington’s children live in poverty? Mental health is a crucial aspect of leading a healthy and fulfilling life yet it remains a significant issue in Islington, where there is the highest level of depression in London and many people struggle with loneliness and social isolation. At Islington Giving, we believe that no one should struggle alone. Through our partners, we’re making vital mental health support more accessible and creating spaces for people to connect, talk, and heal. 💜 Brandon Centre - Here for Young People – supporting young adults facing complex mental health challenges through Brandon Connect, co-funded by Islington Giving. 💜 Body & Soul Charity – working with young people at risk of suicide and self-harm. 💜 Islington Mind – connecting families whose children have mental health needs. Check out more vital projects, incredible organisations and helpful resources via the links in our comments. ⬇️ And don't forget to check in with a friend, family member of colleague, and make today (and everyday) count. #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealth #IslingtonInsights #CommunitySupport #MentalHealthAwareness PDF shown: via Islington Council

  • Creative Makeup with the Single Homeless Project ~ by Lydia Rose, one of our fab Islington Giving Alumni Storytellers! 🎭💄 Homelessness is rising in London, and for those facing housing insecurity, creative expression can be a powerful tool for rebuilding confidence. Enter ArtHouse, the Single Homeless Project (SHP) creative programme where art, theatre, and even makeup become pathways to new opportunities. Supported by Islington Giving, SHP recently ran a creative makeup course, exploring special effects, theatrical, drag and commercial makeup – not just as an art form but as a way to spark conversations about identity and self-expression. Why it matters: 🔸87% of ArtHouse participants went on to take part in their education, training and employment (ETE) programme. 🔸 Participants learned from a makeup artist with lived experience of homelessness, proving what’s possible. 🔸 By the end, their work was exhibited at Greenwich University and three participants earned AQA accreditation Read the full story by Lydia Rose, a member of the Islington Giving Alumni. • "I felt like I was part of the ‘Invisible Islington’ – and I wanted my voice to be heard.” 👏🏼 Kay, a lifelong Islington resident, member of our Community Panel and Islington Giving Alumni, joined to create real change – and that’s exactly what she did. From breaking down barriers for disabled residents to funding projects that help people build life-changing skills, the Community Panel puts power in the hands of local people. ✊🏼 And along the way new friendships were formed, perspectives were shared and challenged, and voices that once felt unheard are now shaping the future of our borough. 💜 A huge thank you to our brilliant Community Panel, Islington Giving board members, and our incredible community partners and donors who make this work possible! 🎉 Check out this lovely group photo from our celebration event, and read more about the projects the panel helped fund. • This week on #IslingtonImpact, we're celebrating local impact with Islington Council's #CommunityChest! 🎉 At Islington Giving, we’ve seen first-hand how Islington Council’s Community Chest makes a real difference in the borough. The funding is provided through a partnership between Islington Council and our parent charity, Cripplegate Foundation which administers the fund. Thanks to Community Chest, WeSwim has been able to run inclusive disability swim sessions, creating a safe and welcoming space where local residents can connect, grow, and thrive. As Tasha Fleming, Director of WeSwim put it: “Working with Islington Council’s Community Chest has been fantastic for our disability swim sessions. Their understanding of local nuances and commitment to building up communities has been invaluable. It takes a village to make these sessions successful, and we’re grateful for their support.” Are you part of a group or organisation driving positive change in Islington? Could extra funding help you expand your impact? Check out Islington Council’s Community Chest fund. 🗓️ The next deadline is 17 February 2025. #IslingtonImpact #Disabilities #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #Islington 📸 Photos by Nino K via WeSwim
