Hello hello, dear network! Happy Friday! It’s been a while – how are you all? After a busy conference season, I took some time off my socials to focus on a couple of things (apologies if I haven’t responded to your message on here yet – I’m catching up, promise!). The first half of 2024 was incredibly busy for the healthcare community, with lots of announcements and updates from the UAE and the rest of the GCC/MENA region. The industry is thriving and evolving rapidly, with governments and regulators working hard behind the scenes to ensure continuous improvement. We’re also seeing some phenomenal Middle Eastern talent emerging in the healthtech/startup space, and I can’t wait to see more. When it's hectic, my personal socials tend to take a back seat as we focus on client content. While we prep for the second half of 2024, I’ll be looking back on the top conferences and events of the year so far, and what they mean for the public and healthcare community. My first highlight has to go to the Department of Health Abu Dhabi's debut Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week 2024, a three-day event in May at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi that featured major players like M42 Health, PureHealth, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Institute for Healthier Living Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City - SSMC, Technology Innovation Institute, and Malaffi (Abu Dhabi Health Information Exchange). Part exhibition, part conference, #ADGHW 2024 welcomed over 11,500 visitors, 270 speakers, and 1,600 delegates from 97 countries. The event included programme launches, partnership announcements, and a robust thought-leadership component aimed at accelerating the future of healthcare. I will share the top headlines/outcomes from the event in a separate post. In the meantime, here’s my mini review: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐬: Very well-organised, lots to do, and the availability of a large media room with space to work (something many events neglect these days!). It was great to see leaders from the Department of Health actively participating, interacting with attendees etc. Scheduled events, such as MoUs, ran like clockwork. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬: As with any event, there were times when too much was happening at the same time, leading to tough choices between clashing forum sessions. I also felt that some forum spaces felt slightly hidden. 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Having been in media for a long time, I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly in PR, and (sadly), healthcare comms can be a little hit or miss at times. This was not the case here: The ADGHW media teams involved were absolute rockstars from start to finish, from DoH’s own Rami Mohammad Adwan and his team to the main event’s PR agency (thank you to everyone who was on the ground and present throughout, including the brilliant Sara Farrah, Salim Rachid, and Maroun Farah). 📺 Hotel Television and Me! ‘’So you won’t have to stay with leftover screws’’ I was at the recent NCHID 2024 Digital Health Summit at the Northeastern University with Fabrice Brunet representing the Quartier de l'innovation en santé de Montréal. A big shout out to our hosts at Digital Health Institute for Transformation (DHIT): Michael Levy, Cindy Hallberlin, and the entire team including Jennifer Levy, Lee (Leyan) Phillips…! The storyline that tied together this summit was incredible; guiding us from one panel to another... from where an idea starts, how it blooms, to who it serves or underserves. During my panel, we delved into a crucial discussion on the essence of innovation and its tangible impact. Our focus in this session lies in unraveling the key factors that innovators must meticulously consider when constructing a compelling case that showcases measurable outcomes. It's imperative that we shine a light not only on what works but also on the pitfalls that can potentially lead to the downfall of a solution. ☝🏼 While in Charlotte... well, let's establish a fact first: I have a peculiar relationship with hotel television. Typically, I don't watch television, but in a hotel, I find myself unable to resist. It's the same content, yet somehow much more captivating!  I know you all know what I mean! 😅 That being said: I came across an ad that finishes ‘’So you won’t have to stay with leftover screws’’... and then you see a gentleman in front of a bookshelf that crashes…   Made me connect the dots that innovation isn't merely about ideation; it's about implementation and its consequent effect.  - Not measuring impact is not serving innovation well. - Not measuring is the same as having leftover screws and hiding them in the closest pot plant. 🔺 Something will crash at a certain point.  Measurability isn't just a metric; it's the very essence of accountability. Measuring is a proactive way of fighting future cynicism. It's about demonstrating, in clear and tangible terms, the transformative power of our innovations. It's about showcasing the ripple effect that our solutions have on communities, industries. Between #CES and #JPM, there will be a lot of discussion of #digitalhealth and #healthcare going on this coming week! While the formal presentations certainly can be edifying, in recent years I have found that some of the 1-1 conversations in the halls and peripheral events (briefing breakfasts, meetups, hosted gatherings, etc.) create some of the greatest, most tangible value. What are you most excited to see/hear about, at either event?

Who else knows that feeling of "post-event blues"?   Attending industry events like PDA "Connected Health and Medical Devices", HLTH Europe, and the "7th Annual Digital Biomarkers in Clinical Trials Summit" in Basel has always been exhilarating. The energy, the innovations, the networking – there's nothing quite like the great feeling of being surrounded by passionate professionals and groundbreaking ideas.   However, after the high of these incredible experiences, I often find myself experiencing what’s also known as the "conference letdown". According to my short Google research, it’s that dip in energy and mood that comes after the excitement fades and normalcy resumes.   Further googling, I found out that it is a common phenomenon among professionals who frequently attend high-energy events. It stems from the sudden transition from a stimulating environment filled with new ideas, engaging conversations, and dynamic activities, back to the routine of everyday work life. The stark contrast can leave one feeling deflated and unmotivated.   For me, this letdown can be attributed to several factors: 🎉 During events, my adrenaline is high due to constant engagement and excitement. Once the event is over, adrenaline levels drop, leading to a feeling of exhaustion. 🎉 Events are often packed with information and interactions, which can be mentally overwhelming. The sudden absence of this stimulation can make the regular pace of work seem pretty boring. I guess HLTH is a perfect example for this. 🎉 Conferences provide a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, but it sometimes gives me the impression that others are much more on top of the game than I am. 🎉 Post-event, there is always a gap between the inspiration and immediate application of new ideas. Sometimes I find that very frustrating.   But anyway, it's a reminder of the importance of balancing the peaks with steady, everyday progress. The inspiration I gain from these events fuels my long-term goals, and while the letdown can feel like a stark contrast, it’s also a valuable period for reflection and integration of new insights.   How do you handle the post-event blues and keep the momentum going after such inspiring experiences?   #PostEventBlues #Networking #IndustryEvents #Innovation #EventAftermath #DigitalHealth
